Job Description
The Telecommunications Supervisor is responsible for supervising and coordinating daily telecommunications operations, including cabling, PBX/telephony support, VoIP services, telecom room activities, service ticket management, and project support. This role oversees Cable Technicians and PBX/Telephony staff, assigns daily work, prioritizes service requests, manages escalations, and ensures timely completion of telecommunications tasks in accordance with applicable standards, procedures, and safety requirements.
The ideal candidate will have five to seven years of experience in telecommunications, cabling, low-voltage infrastructure, or IT infrastructure support, along with prior experience supervising technical staff and managing day-to-day operational activities.
Key Responsibilities
Supervise and coordinate daily activities of Cable Technicians and PBX/Telephony staff.
Assign tasks, schedule work, and prioritize activities based on operational needs, service tickets, and project requirements.
Serve as the primary point of contact for telecommunications issues, escalations, and coordination with other IT teams.
Oversee the telecommunications ticket queue to ensure timely response, resolution, documentation, and escalation.
Review work orders, service tickets, and reports to ensure quality, accuracy, and completion.
Coordinate cabling, telephony, and telecom support activities for projects, moves, adds, and changes.
Ensure telecom work complies with applicable standards, procedures, documentation requirements, and safety guidelines.
Maintain documentation related to telecom infrastructure, workflows, telecom rooms, and operational procedures.
Coordinate with vendors, contractors, and internal stakeholders for telecom-related services, installations, repairs, and projects.
Prepare operational reports, workload metrics, ticket status updates, and telecom performance summaries.
Support PBX, VoIP, voice infrastructure, structured cabling, fiber, copper, and telecom room operations.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Five to seven years of experience in telecommunications, cabling, low-voltage infrastructure, or IT infrastructure support environments.
Experience supervising technical staff, assigning work, and managing day-to-day operational activities.
Working knowledge of low-voltage cabling, including fiber and copper cabling.
Knowledge of structured cabling standards and telecom room operations.
Familiarity with PBX/telephony systems, VoIP, and basic voice infrastructure concepts.
Experience managing service tickets, work queues, operational reports, and workload tracking.
Strong communication and coordination skills with both technical and non-technical teams.
Ability to act as a clear escalation point and decision-maker for telecommunications issues.
Ability to coordinate multiple priorities, vendors, staff assignments, and project-related telecom tasks.
Preferred Qualifications
Supervisory or telecom-related certifications preferred, such as BICSI, Avaya, or equivalent.
Experience supporting public-sector, government, municipal, or large enterprise IT environments.
Experience with telecom documentation, operational reporting, and vendor coordination.
Knowledge of MAC activities, including moves, adds, and changes for telecom and cabling services.
