Job Title: Data Engineer
Location: Los Angeles, CA - Remote
Duration: 12-Month Contract
Pay Range: $50- $56 per hour( DOE)
Position Description
- Work under the direction of an IT Manager or designated user agency personnel.
- Perform data extraction, analysis, mapping, and conversion activities.
- Profile, cleanse, transform, validate, and load data from multiple legacy systems into the target solution.
- Ensure data integrity, reconciliation, and accuracy throughout the data conversion process.
- Define and document data conversion requirements.
- Collaborate with multiple agencies and organizational units to support data migration initiatives.
- Ensure converted data meets business and user requirements.
- Coordinate and communicate data conversion activities across stakeholders.
- Assist with planning, scheduling, and execution of data conversion efforts.
- Identify, document, and resolve data conversion issues.
- Facilitate knowledge transfer and training to support users working with converted data.
Required Skills- Strong experience with legacy systems, flat files, mainframe-extracted data, and structured/unstructured datasets.
- Experience with data mapping, field mapping, and crosswalk analysis across organizations and vendors.
- Ability to interpret legacy data formats and data dictionaries.
- Knowledge of data conversion strategies, including:
- Data retention requirements
- Cutover sequencing
- Required data element identification
- Familiarity with ETL processes and data reconciliation.
- Experience with encrypted file validation and SFTP file structures.
- Strong understanding of source-to-target data mapping.
- Ability to document data extraction logic and validation rules.
- Experience resolving data inconsistencies and data quality issues.
- Knowledge of government data retention and compliance standards.
- Strong cross-functional communication and coordination skills.
Required Experience- 3+ years of experience supporting field mapping, crosswalk analysis, and data validation during data conversion projects.
- 3+ years of experience troubleshooting data quality issues, including blob-size anomalies and variable-length data errors.
- 3+ years of experience participating in cross-organizational coordination, including:
- File reviews
- Data dictionary prioritization
- Working with encrypted test files
- Handling regulated data
- 3+ years of experience working with legacy and relational database technologies, including:
- Mainframe environments
- DB2
- FOCUS
- Oracle
- Microsoft SQL Server
Education- Bachelor''s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, Engineering, or a closely related field.
- Additional relevant experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis
