ABOUT THE ROLE

Our client, a Fortune 200 banking partner, is seeking a motivated Junior Data Engineer to join their data engineering team in Charlotte, NC, on a hybrid schedule. This role is ideal for entry level candidates or early-career professionals interested in building and maintaining data pipelines, working with cloud technologies such as AWS and Snowflake, and supporting data-driven solutions. As a Junior Data Engineer, you will partner with experienced engineers to develop, maintain, and improve data platforms that support analytics, reporting, and business operations. You will also gain hands-on experience with AI-powered development tools, participate in Agile Scrum ceremonies, and collaborate with cross-functional teams in a collaborative, growth-oriented environment. This is a 12-to-24-month contract position with the potential for future conversion based on performance and business needs. Sponsorship is not available for this role.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Assist in developing and maintaining batch and near real-time data pipelines using SQL and Python
  • Support data ingestion, transformation, and processing activities within Snowflake and AWS environments
  • Create and maintain datasets, data models, and reporting assets for analytics and business teams
  • Contribute to ETL/ELT workflows integrating data from various source systems
  • Participate in testing and troubleshooting data pipelines to ensure accuracy and reliability
  • Learn and apply data engineering best practices for scalability, performance, and security
  • Work with AWS services (S3, Lambda, Glue) and other data-focused technologies under the guidance of senior engineers
  • Assist with maintenance and support of cloud-based data warehouses and data lake environments
  • Monitor data processing jobs and help identify opportunities for performance improvements
  • Support data quality and governance initiatives by validating, documenting, and tracking data assets
  • Gain exposure to data lineage, observability, and monitoring tools used across the data platform
  • Utilize AI-powered development tools and coding assistants to improve productivity and learning
  • Leverage generative AI tools for code development, documentation, testing, and troubleshooting
  • Support automation efforts by identifying repetitive tasks that can be improved through technology and AI solutions
  • Learn and follow responsible AI, security, and governance practices established by the organization
  • Use GitLab or similar version control systems for code management and collaboration
  • Participate in CI/CD processes, code reviews, testing, and deployment activities
  • Assist with troubleshooting production issues and documenting resolutions
  • Help create and maintain technical documentation, process guides, and reusable engineering resources
  • Follow established software development and DevOps best practices
  • Participate in Agile Scrum ceremonies, including daily standups, sprint planning, sprint reviews, and retrospectives
  • Collaborate with engineers, analysts, and business stakeholders to understand project requirements
  • Support the design and implementation of technical solutions while learning data architecture and modeling concepts
  • Contribute ideas and feedback to improve team processes and project outcomes
WHAT YOU BRING
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Experience with SQL and Python for data pipeline development and maintenance
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms, especially AWS (S3, Lambda, Glue) and Snowflake
  • Understanding of ETL/ELT processes and data integration concepts
  • Knowledge of version control systems such as GitLab or similar
  • Exposure to Agile methodologies and collaborative team environments
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Interest in learning and applying AI-powered development tools
  • Excellent communication and documentation abilities
  • Work authorization in the United States (sponsorship not available)
