Windchill Functional Support Specialist #2617
Position Summary:
A global engineering-driven organization that designs and manufactures highly regulated, precision-based products supporting critical healthcare procedures worldwide. They are adding a Windchill Functional Support Specialist to protect engineering productivity and workflow integrity by owning day-to-day troubleshooting inside the PLM environment. This opportunity is for someone who knows Windchill deeply enough to step into complex workflow breakdowns and restore system integrity quickly. The work is hands-on and technical in the way strong functional support is technical: tracing object history, identifying the true break point, guiding users through correction, and recognizing patterns that signal a training gap versus a genuine system defect.
Experience and Education:
  • BS in Computer Science, Engineering Systems, or equivalent experience/field
  • Experience providing functional support for PTC Windchill in a production environment
  • Background troubleshooting broken Windchill objects and correcting workflow or lifecycle issues
  • Exposure to engineering change management processes and workflow-driven approvals
  • Experience supporting engineering users through live troubleshooting and recovery steps
  • Familiarity with Windchill object structures and relationships across documents and change objects
  • Experience working in regulated or process-heavy engineering environments (a plus)

Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • Investigate user-reported issues inside Windchill and identify where workflows broke
  • Inspect object structures and relationships to confirm integrity across key objects
  • Trace workflow history to backtrack user actions and isolate the root cause
  • Guide engineers and business users through safe correction steps during live calls
  • Explain what happened in clear terms so users understand how to avoid repeats
  • Recognize repeat failure patterns and determine whether the driver is training, UX, or a defect
  • Escalate true system defects to the appropriate team with a strong technical context
  • Reduce reliance on Product Owners for day-to-day troubleshooting and recovery
  • Support users who want a second set of eyes before completing high-risk workflow actions
  • Help reinforce consistent usage of sign-offs, associations, and change process steps
  • Document common failure modes and recommended fixes for faster resolution
  • Maintain a calm, structured approach when users are frustrated or under deadline pressure
  • Partner with Product Owners to identify systemic issues impacting workflow reliability
  • Contribute to improvements that reduce recurring workflow errors without redesigning the platform
  • Protect the reliability of change management execution across engineering teams
