Role Overview

The Business Systems Analyst reviews, analyzes, and evaluates business systems and user needs. This role formulates system solutions that align with overall business strategies and leads analysis and solution definition activities.

The analyst understands business issues and data challenges within the organization, identifies strengths and weaknesses, and recommends improvements. The role involves reviewing and editing requirements, specifications, and business processes, as well as providing recommendations for proposed solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze and evaluate business systems and user requirements.
  • Lead requirements analysis and solution definition initiatives.
  • Develop functional and non-functional specifications, use cases, and system design documentation.
  • Conduct Joint Application Development (JAD) sessions and brainstorming workshops with stakeholders.
  • Interview and survey subject matter experts and stakeholders to gather requirements.
  • Analyze business processes and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Design and document integration interfaces between systems.
  • Create and maintain system integration documentation.
  • Work closely with software architects to understand system limitations and technical constraints.
  • Assist development teams during system development by providing use cases, flowcharts, UML, and BPMN diagrams.
  • Document requirements and contribute to user manuals and system documentation.
  • Plan and analyze system data flows from the ground up.
  • Identify organizational and human impacts of new systems and ensure proper integration with existing processes.
  • Participate in system and application walkthroughs with stakeholders.
  • Support User Acceptance Testing (UAT) activities including test planning, test case creation, tracking, coordination, and results evaluation.
  • Provide training and support to end users when required.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Experience performing analysis and documentation of business and system interactions.
  • Experience analyzing business applications and documenting workflows.
  • Strong experience analyzing and documenting business processes.
  • Experience collaborating on system integration design and documentation.
  • Proven ability to gather business and system design requirements.
  • Experience leading or participating in system and application walkthroughs.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to create clear documentation.
  • Experience with User Acceptance Testing (UAT), including test planning, test case creation, tracking, and coordination.
  • Experience supporting system upgrades or modernization initiatives, preferably financial systems.
  • Experience working in Agile environments including Scrum and Kanban
  • Working experience in the healthcare domain is preferred.

Technical Knowledge

  • Understanding of system architecture and data flows.
  • Knowledge of UML and BPMN diagramming.
  • Familiarity with software development lifecycle (SDLC).
  • Understanding of computer systems capabilities and limitations.
