Genesis10 is currently seeking a Data Security & Governance Lead for a 12-month contract-to-hire role with our healthcare client in Rochester, MN. This role will be 100% remote. Compensation: $80.00 - $90.00 per hour, W2, depending on skill and experience level. About the Role We are seeking a Data Security & Governance Lead to define, implement, and own data security and governance frameworks across Google Cloud Platform (Google Cloud Platform) and Microsoft Azure. This role partners closely with data engineering, platform, security, and compliance teams to ensure data is secure, compliant, discoverable, and well-governed across cloud data platforms.
You will lead governance strategy while remaining hands-on with tooling, policies, and cloud-native services.
Experience [10+] years (with leadership or lead-level responsibility)
Key Responsibilities Data Security - Define and enforce data security standards across Google Cloud Platform and Azure
- Implement data classification, encryption, masking, and tokenization strategies
- Design and manage IAM and access controls for data platforms
- Ensure secure data access for analytics, AI/ML, and external integrations
- Implement and monitor key management (Cloud KMS, Azure Key Vault)
- Lead security reviews, risk assessments, and remediation efforts
Data Governance - Define and own data governance frameworks, policies, and operating models
- Implement data classification, tagging, and metadata management
- Establish data ownership, stewardship, and lineage processes
- Enable data discovery and cataloging using cloud-native and third-party tools
- Ensure data quality standards and governance controls are embedded in pipelines
Compliance & Privacy - Ensure compliance with regulatory and privacy requirements (GDPR, HIPAA, SOC 2, ISO, etc.)
- Partner with legal, risk, and compliance teams on audits and assessments
- Define data retention, archiving, and deletion policies
- Support incident response and breach investigations related to data
Collaboration & Leadership - Act as the primary point of contact for data security and governance
- Guide and mentor engineers and data teams on best practices
- Influence platform architecture and tooling decisions
- Drive adoption of governance standards across the organization
Required Skills & Qualifications - Strong experience in data security and governance roles
- Hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform and/or Azure data platforms
- Deep understanding of cloud IAM, data access controls, and encryption
- Experience securing data platforms such as BigQuery, Cloud Storage, Azure Synapse, ADLS, SQL/NoSQL databases
- Experience with data classification, masking, and lineage concepts
- Strong knowledge of data privacy and regulatory frameworks
- Ability to work across engineering, security, compliance, and business teams
Preferred / Nice to Have - Experience with multi-cloud data governance
- Familiarity with data governance tools (e.g., Dataplex, Purview, Collibra, Alation, Immuta, Privacera)
- Experience supporting AI/ML data security and governance
- Certifications in Google Cloud Platform, Azure, Security, or Data Governance
- Experience defining governance operating models at scale
