A rapidly growing robotics and automation company in the Greater Boston area is hiring a full-time Senior Robotics Engineer to lead motion planning and control development for advanced multi-axis robotic systems. This role focuses on ROS 2, MoveIt 2, motion planning algorithms, collision avoidance, robotic simulation, and real-time robotic control across highly complex electromechanical platforms. The position offers the opportunity to work directly with cutting-edge robotic hardware in a hands-on environment where software is tightly integrated with real-world automation systems and deployed directly into production environments.
This is an exciting opportunity for a robotics engineer who wants direct ownership over core motion planning systems and the ability to influence technical direction in a fast-moving startup environment. The company is looking for someone with deep expertise in robotic kinematics, trajectory planning, and hardware/software integration who enjoys solving difficult real-world robotics problems. You'll work closely with perception, systems, hardware, and controls teams to build reliable collision-aware robotic systems operating in constrained industrial environments. This role offers immediate impact, close access to physical hardware, and the opportunity to help define next-generation robotic automation technology from the ground up.
Required Skills & Experience
Deep expertise with motion planning algorithms including RRT, RRT*, PRM, CHOMP, STOMP, or TrajOpt
2+ years of hands-on experience with MoveIt or MoveIt 2 in production or near-production environments
Strong experience within the ROS 2 ecosystem
Strong proficiency in C++ and/or Python for robotics software development
Experience with robotic kinematics, inverse kinematics, and motion constraints
Experience with collision avoidance systems and occupancy mapping technologies such as OctoMap or voxel grids
Experience with kinematic solvers such as KDL, TRAC-IK, or similar frameworks
Experience building real-time robotic control and trajectory execution systems
Strong debugging and hardware/software integration skills
Experience with robotic simulation environments for development and validation
Strong understanding of real-time software performance and system reliability
Desired Skills & Experience
BS, MS, or PhD in Robotics, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
Experience with industrial automation or mechatronic systems beyond traditional robotic arms
Experience with safety-rated motion control systems
Familiarity with hardware abstraction layers and low-level firmware integration
Experience with LiDAR, depth cameras, IMUs, or robotic perception systems
Familiarity with point cloud processing tools such as PCL or Open3D
Exposure to SLAM, object detection, or reactive motion planning systems
Experience with hardware-in-the-loop testing and field robotics deployments
