Position: Senior IT Project Manager – Mainframe
Type: Contract

Position Overview
We are seeking a Senior IT Project Manager – Mainframe to lead complex, enterprise-wide technology initiatives focused on Mainframe workload management, platform stability, modernization, performance, and operational governance. This role requires someone who can effectively bridge the gap between highly technical Mainframe/DB2 teams and executive leadership, translating technical issues into business impact, risks, decisions, and actionable outcomes. The candidate will also own and facilitate Mainframe Workload & Stability Forums, ensuring effective governance, decision-making, accountability, and timely resolution of risks, issues, and dependencies.
 
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead complex, enterprise-wide technology initiatives involving 15–50+ stakeholder groups across Mainframe, DB2, Infrastructure, Operations, Applications, Engineering, Performance, and Vendor teams.
  • Own and facilitate Mainframe Workload & Stability Forums, including agenda development, meeting facilitation, decision tracking, action items, ownership, and follow-ups.
  • Drive initiatives related to Mainframe modernization, workload management, production stability, capacity planning, and performance management.
  • Coordinate cross-functional technical teams to identify, prioritize, and resolve Mainframe workload, performance, capacity, and production stability issues.
  • Manage project Risks, Issues, Dependencies, Action Items, and escalations (RAID) and ensure timely resolution and closure.
  • Establish strong governance processes and maintain RAID logs, decision logs, action trackers, project dashboards, and executive-level status reports.
  • Prepare and deliver executive presentations that clearly communicate project health, technical challenges, business impact, risks, decisions required, and recommended actions.
  • Translate complex technical problems into business impact, leadership decisions, and clear action plans.
  • Track milestones, deliverables, dependencies, and commitments across multiple technical and business teams.
  • Facilitate communication between technical teams, business stakeholders, vendors, and senior leadership.
  • Identify potential risks and bottlenecks proactively and drive appropriate mitigation and escalation strategies.
  • Support continuous improvement of Mainframe operational governance, workload management, and platform stability processes.
  • Ensure project activities align with enterprise technology governance, operational standards, and applicable IT service management practices.
 
Required Qualifications
  • 8+ years of experience in IT/Technical Project Management, Infrastructure, IT Operations Governance, Enterprise Technology, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience leading complex, enterprise-wide technical initiatives involving numerous stakeholder groups.
  • Strong experience coordinating across Mainframe, DB2, Infrastructure, Operations, Application, Engineering, Performance, and Vendor teams.
  • Experience supporting one or more of the following: Mainframe modernization, Mainframe workload management, Mainframe production stability, DB2 z/OS, DB2 LUW, Capacity planning, Performance management/tuning
  • Strong experience with RAID management, risk/issue tracking, dependency management, escalations, and governance.
  • Excellent meeting facilitation and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with technical teams and executive leadership.
  • Proven ability to translate technical issues into business impact, decisions, risks, and action items.
  • Experience creating executive-level status reports, dashboards, RAID logs, decision logs, and presentations.
 
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Mainframe modernization programs.
  • Knowledge of DB2 z/OS and/or DB2 LUW.
  • Experience with capacity planning, workload management, or performance management.
  • PMP certification.
  • ITIL certification or experience.
  • Scrum Master / Agile certification or experience.
  • Experience working in large enterprise technology environments.
