Responsibilities:
- The ideal candidate for this role will enjoy working in a fast-paced environment with high expectations, diverse assignments, and collaborating with internal and external customers.
- In this role you will design industrial tools, dies, gauges, drill & assembly jigs, fixtures, machine attachments and equipment, required for assembly, composite production or experimental use, considering such factors as accessibility, economy, mobility, and performance requirements.
- This role works closely with manufacturing, operations, vendors, and cross-functional engineering teams to ensure tooling meets quality, cost, schedule, and safety requirements.
- The candidate shall have the ability to work autonomously and in a team environment, adapt to processes and company policy while providing input or methods of process/design innovation.
Key Responsibilities:
- - Develop tooling concepts and support equipment for new and existing programs
- - Design tooling and equipment, including engineering drawings, inspection requirements, and verification plans
- - Review designs for manufacturability, fit, form, and function
- - Identify and mitigate safety risks in accordance with company and state/government standards
- - Make layouts of complex assemblies and details parts of structures
- - Develops basic data and makes preliminary layouts, sketches, and notes necessary to present design proposal.
- - Interface with internal customers and design review teams to ensure requirements are met
- - Coordinates with manufacturing, operations, and process engineering to support program quality, delivery, and cost objectives
- - Manage tooling projects, including cost, schedule, procurement, and fabrication
- - Checks completed layouts and drawings for clarity, completeness, conformity to standards, procedures, specifications, and accuracy of calculations and dimensioning.
- - Identifies design errors, omissions, and other deficiencies, and recommends revisions and/or improvements in design layout to responsible engineers or designers.
- - Support vendors during fabrication and inspect fabricated tooling for drawing compliance
- - Support continuous improvement initiatives and proactive problem-solving Safety, Process, and Compliance
- - Support investigations related to root cause analysis, non-conformances, and process failures
Basic Qualifications:
- - Experience with industry standard design tools including NX CAD & CATIA
- - Knowledge of manufacturing, fabrication processes & machine shop practices
- - Experience with drawing release criteria and related documents for:
- Completeness, clarity, and dimensional accuracy
- Correctness of materials and processes
- Conformity to design/drafting standards (e.g. GD&T), design specifications, and practicability;
- Economy of fabrication, assembly, and installation.
- - Knowledge and application of GD&T (ASME Y14.5-2018)
- - Knowledge and application of drawing weld symbols
- - Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- - Strong organizational skills in managing time, projects, and resources
- - Technical attention to detail
- - Bachelor’s Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline
Preferred Qualifications:
- - Experience in an aerospace manufacturing environment
- - Experience in engineering, design, and fabrication of special tooling and support equipment
- - Experience in design, fabrication and implementation of tooling used in the manufacture of composite parts
- - Ability to evaluate vendor capabilities for tooling and aerospace part production
- - Experience participating in developments project, establishing tooling SOW & design estimates.
- - Experience with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system.
- - Excellent organizational and project management skills
- - Experience with stress analysis of simple to complex problems via hand calculations and FEMAP/NASTRAN
- - Professional Engineering License
