Role Overview
This role centers on engineering leadership for large-scale energy storage projects, with an emphasis on design, integration, and cross-functional collaboration. The engineer will guide technical execution from concept through commissioning, ensuring compliance, quality, and innovation in energy storage systems. This position involves planning, designing, and executing various energy storage projects, including subject area exploration, scope definition, and engineering oversight.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the design phase and engineer major components for large-scale energy storage projects.
- Review engineering drawings for inconsistencies, take corrective action, and work towards improved design quality.
- Identify and resolve errors in engineering studies and suggest future solutions.
- Prepare technical scopes of work for contracts and support projects from inception to completion.
- Collaborate with suppliers to integrate major equipment.
- Work with diverse teams to solve problems, improve opportunities, and integrate systems and controls.
- Manage project milestones, recognize risks, and stay updated on project progress and technical issues.
- Ensure compliance with permitting requirements and safety standards.
- Travel to project sites approximately 25% of the time for oversight and coordination.
Required Qualifications
Education: A Bachelor of Science in Engineering is required.
Experience: A minimum of 3 years of experience in Solar/PV engineering and/or construction is required.
Technical Skills:- Expertise in one or more of the following areas: Power electronics, Battery storage system design, Substation design, or Generation tie design.
- Familiarity with energy storage technologies, including battery chemistries, power conversion units, and DC/DC converters.
- Knowledge of lithium-ion battery storage safety standards (e.g., UL1973, UL9540, UL9540A, NFPA 855, NEC).
- Ability to handle specialized technical tasks independently.
- Demonstrated communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineering (PE) certification.
- Experience with design tools such as PSCAD or ETAP.
- Familiarity with IEC standards (e.g., 61215, 61646, 61730).
