Job Summary

The S/4HANA Principal Configuration Analyst - SAP Master Data Governance (MDG) provides senior-level functional and configuration leadership for SAP MDG within a global SAP ECC environment transitioning to SAP S/4HANA Private Cloud. This role is responsible for governing, harmonizing, and transforming enterprise master data while ensuring continuity of operations throughout the transformation.

The SAP MDG Principal Configuration Analyst serves as the subject matter expert for SAP MDG, translating business requirements into effective master data models, governance frameworks, workflows, and validations. This role supports master data design, governance, and data quality across Finance, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, and Commercial domains, with a strong emphasis on ETL enablement, data harmonization, and system-to-system data movement across SAP and non-SAP platforms. The role ensures master data remains operationally sound in ECC while being future-ready for S/4HANA and downstream digital platforms.

Key Responsibilities

SAP Master Data Governance
  • Own, define, and enhance SAP master data governance and control frameworks to ensure global data consistency, quality, and compliance
  • Govern core master data objects, including:
    • Business Partners, Customers, and Vendors
    • Materials, including BOM-related attributes
    • Finance master data (G/L accounts, cost centers, profit centers)
    • Plants, storage locations, and organizational structures
  • Define and enforce data ownership, stewardship models, governance strategies (centralized and federated), approval workflows, and validation rules
  • Partner with business, integration, and reporting teams to resolve master data integrity issues impacting operations, compliance, and analytics

Data Harmonization, ETL, and Integration Enablement
  • Lead enterprise data harmonization efforts across SAP ECC, Microsoft Navision, legacy platforms, and external source systems feeding SAP S/4HANA
  • Design and support ETL processes for master data ingestion, transformation, and distribution using SAP-standard and approved enterprise integration tools
  • Define canonical master data models and mapping rules to support:
    • System consolidation initiatives
    • S/4HANA migration readiness
    • Analytics and enterprise reporting platforms
  • Collaborate with integration teams to ensure master data is consistently published and consumed across SAP and non-SAP environments

S/4HANA and MDG Transformation Enablement (Future State)
  • Partner with system integrators on SAP MDG design, fit-gap analysis, and transformation readiness for S/4HANA
  • Translate ECC master data constructs into S/4HANA-aligned, MDG-compliant designs, including Business Partner adoption and simplified data models
  • Define future-state governance processes supporting:
    • Embedded MDG scenarios
    • Centralized and decentralized governance models
    • Scalable global data ownership
  • Reduce custom data models and point-to-point integrations by promoting SAP standard capabilities and extensibility best practices

Cross-Functional and Compliance Responsibilities
  • Validate master data governance solutions against business, regulatory, and audit requirements
  • Recommend process changes where SAP standard provides superior control and compliance
  • Produce comprehensive and traceable documentation, including:
    • Data models and attribute definitions
    • Governance workflows and approval matrices
    • Data mapping and transformation logic
    • Design decisions and configuration rationale
  • Develop and execute test strategies and validation artifacts supporting GxP, GAMP 5, and CSV requirements
  • Provide subject matter expertise during audits, data remediation efforts, and production incidents

Leadership and Delivery
  • Serve as a functional lead for master data initiatives, data quality programs, and transformation workstreams
  • Facilitate workshops with global stakeholders to align on master data standards, ownership, and governance
  • Mentor junior analysts and contribute to enterprise data standards, templates, and governance operating models
  • Participate in critical incident support related to master data integrity and system availability

Required Qualifications

Experience
  • Minimum of 8 years of SAP master data experience
  • Hands-on configuration experience with SAP ECC and SAP S/4HANA
  • Deep functional expertise in SAP Master Data Governance (MDG), including data models, workflows, governance frameworks, and validations
  • Practical experience with ETL processes, data harmonization, and system integrations across SAP and non-SAP platforms
  • Experience supporting SAP transformation programs, system consolidations, or large-scale data remediation initiatives
  • Background working in regulated or compliance-driven environments

Preferred Qualifications
  • Functional experience in SAP:
    • Finance (FI/CO)
    • Supply Chain (MM, PP, QM)
  • Experience with Business Partner conversion and CVI
  • Exposure to SAP S/4HANA Private Cloud or RISE with SAP operating models
  • Understanding of downstream data consumers, including analytics, reporting, and planning platforms

Core Competencies
  • Strong analytical and data-driven mindset
  • Ability to balance operational stability with long-term data architecture and governance integrity
  • Clear communicator capable of translating complex data concepts into business-friendly language
  • Proven ability to influence data ownership and governance decisions without direct authority

  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered

Physical Requirements
