Summary:

The Associate Project Engineer position supports Project Managers and senior Engineers on mid- and large-capital projects. This role provides exposure to processing operations in midstream facilities, including Cryogenic Gas Processing Plants, Fractionation, LPG Chilling, Dehydration, Liquid Handling, and Gas and Liquid Treating.

Associate Engineers assist with project planning, basic design tasks, data analysis, and coordination activities while developing technical and project execution skills. With guidance and mentorship, the Associate Project Engineer may support elements of small to mid-sized projects and gradually assume increased responsibility. Strong foundational engineering knowledge, analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective communication skills are important for success in this role.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Process Project Engineering
    • Perform and support upfront engineering activities for midstream facilities, including amine treaters, condensate stabilizers, glycol dehydration units, cryogenic gas processing plants, NGL fractionation trains, and NGL export terminals.
    • Develop, run, and maintain process simulations using Aspen, HYSYS, or ProMax under guidance from senior engineers.
    • Assist in the development of design specifications and data sheets for major process equipment.
    • Support Project Managers and lead engineers with design reviews, drawing reviews, and document approvals.
    • Participate in commissioning, startup, and troubleshooting activities, with increasing responsibility as experience is gained.
    • Assist with Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs), Layers of Protection Analyses (LOPAs), and other process safety reviews.
    • Support OSHA PSM-required activities, including preparation and maintenance of Process Safety Information, resolution of open PHA action items, and development or review of Cause & Effect diagrams.
    • Develop engineering solutions while adhering to applicable engineering standards, codes, company requirements, safety standards, and good engineering practices.
    • Interpret and apply relevant design codes and regulations, seeking guidance and technical review from senior engineers as needed.
    • Proactively seek opportunities to expand process engineering knowledge and develop technical proficiencies.
Project Management
  • Support Project Managers in the execution of small to mid-sized plant projects across the project lifecycle, including scope development, design support, material procurement, construction activities, commissioning, and project closeout.
  • With guidance, assist in project planning activities such as cost estimating, schedule development, procurement coordination, contractor oversight, and progress tracking.
  • For select small projects, assume a supporting or partial project management role, gradually taking on increased responsibility under supervision.

Education and/or Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job duty satisfactorily. The requirements for this position are listed below:

Bachelor's in Engineering Discipline, Chemical or Mechanical Engineer preferred

0-3 years in combined engineering and/or project management

EIT or Passing FE Exam viewed as a plus

Microsoft Products

General understanding of Engineering Programs - Promax, HYSYS, CAD

Required experience is commensurate with the selected job level:
  • Engineer Level requires 3-6 years of industry-related experience
  • Sr Engineer level requires 6-10 years of industry-related experience


Working Conditions:

  • Usually, normal office working conditions.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time due to prolonged periods of sitting or standing.
  • Overnight travel up to 80% of the time may be required.
  • Occasional visits to industrial/manufacturing settings, which may include exposure to various materials and chemicals, as well as extreme temperature conditions and loud machinery, and require appropriate personal protective equipment.
