Lead Software Engineer, Agentic AI & Automation

We are not accepting C2C or 1099 arrangements.

Location: Charlotte, NC or Irving, TX
Work Arrangement: On-site, 5 days per week
Employment Type: Contingent / Contract Assignment
Organization: Consumer Intelligent Automation & AI

About the Role

We are seeking a Lead Software Engineer, Agentic AI & Automation to join the Consumer Intelligent Automation & AI organization.

The team is building a new Agentic Engineering capability focused on developing enterprise-scale AI and intelligent automation solutions that support Consumer Lending. In this role, you will help design and build AI agents, automation solutions, and Generative AI applications that integrate with existing enterprise platforms and processes.

You will work as part of an agile engineering team and partner with engineering, architecture, product, and business stakeholders to turn complex requirements and architectural designs into scalable, secure, and production-ready solutions.

This role is highly hands-on and is well suited for an engineer who can independently solve complex problems, determine when traditional automation is the right solution versus AI, and thrive in a fast-moving, startup-like engineering environment.
Minimum Qualifications
  • 4+ years of software engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through a combination of professional experience, consulting, training, military service, or education.
  • 2+ years of experience developing solutions using Generative AI, large language models (LLMs), or foundation models.
  • 2+ years of experience with one or more cloud or container platforms, including Google Cloud Platform (Google Cloud Platform), Microsoft Azure, Kubernetes, or OpenShift.
  • 2+ years of hands-on development experience with Python.
  • 2+ years of experience developing and integrating REST APIs.
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Experience using Git for source control, including branching, pull requests, code reviews, and collaborative development workflows.
  • Hands-on experience designing or developing agentic AI or intelligent automation solutions.
  • Experience with enterprise automation technologies such as Microsoft Power Platform and UiPath.
Required Certifications
  • UiPath certification
  • Microsoft Power Platform certification
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience designing and building agentic applications or AI-powered workflow automation.
  • Experience with Microsoft Power Platform, including Power Apps, Power Automate, Copilot Studio, Power Virtual Agents, Power BI, and Dataverse.
  • Experience with UiPath or comparable robotic process automation platforms.
  • Experience with agentic AI frameworks such as LangChain or similar orchestration frameworks.
  • Experience developing applications using models from OpenAI, Anthropic Claude, or Google Gemini.
  • Experience with Microsoft Copilot Studio.
  • Experience with Google Vertex AI or similar enterprise AI platforms.
  • Experience with AI-assisted software development tools and AI-enabled SDLC practices.
  • Experience with Intelligent Document Processing (IDP).
  • Experience with Alteryx for data transformation and workflow automation.
  • Experience designing and implementing retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) solutions.
  • Experience with prompt engineering, structured prompting, model fine-tuning, and agentic design patterns.
  • Experience with vector databases and retrieval technologies such as Elasticsearch, OpenSearch, Pinecone, or Weaviate.
  • Experience integrating AI applications with enterprise APIs, data platforms, and secure data pipelines.
  • Experience with LLM evaluation, observability, and monitoring, including accuracy, grounding, latency, cost, drift, and safety.
  • Familiarity with machine learning lifecycle practices, including model registries, feature stores, and CI/CD pipelines for AI services.
  • Understanding of responsible AI, governance, security, and compliance requirements.
  • Knowledge of cloud security principles, including identity and access management, encryption, and network security.
  • Experience optimizing AI applications for performance, scalability, reliability, and cost.
  • Experience working in financial services or another highly regulated industry.
  • Previous experience serving as a technical lead and mentoring engineers.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Responsibilities

In this role, you will:
  • Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain enterprise-grade Agentic AI, Generative AI, and intelligent automation applications.
  • Translate architectural designs and business requirements into robust, scalable, secure, and maintainable software solutions.
  • Build AI agents and automated workflows that integrate with existing enterprise technology and data platforms.
  • Evaluate business and technical problems to determine when to apply AI, agentic solutions, traditional automation, or conventional software engineering approaches.
  • Develop AI applications using enterprise APIs, LLMs, agent frameworks, cloud services, and automation platforms.
  • Implement prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation, structured prompting, fine-tuning, and agentic design patterns where appropriate.
  • Integrate LLMs and AI services with enterprise applications while meeting security, governance, compliance, and responsible AI requirements.
  • Design and develop APIs and services to enable integration between AI, automation, and enterprise systems.
  • Troubleshoot complex application, integration, automation, and AI model issues.
  • Build automated testing and validation capabilities, including Python-based testing where appropriate.
  • Participate in technical design, code reviews, testing, debugging, documentation, deployment, and production support.
  • Contribute to technical strategy and large-scale planning across Consumer Technology.
  • Evaluate emerging AI technologies, frameworks, and engineering practices and recommend appropriate solutions.
  • Collaborate with engineers, architects, product managers, business partners, and other stakeholders to deliver solutions.
  • Provide technical leadership, guidance, and mentorship to other engineers.
  • Serve as an escalation point for complex technical challenges.
  • Continuously improve the reliability, observability, performance, security, and cost efficiency of AI and automation solutions.
What You'll Work On

The Consumer Intelligent Automation & AI team supports Consumer Lending by developing intelligent automation, software robots, and AI agents that extend existing enterprise technology.

The team is focused on determining how AI and agentic automation can be responsibly scaled across the organization. Engineers work as part of Scrum teams to rapidly design, test, and deliver high-value solutions.

This is a high-growth engineering environment. Successful candidates will be comfortable working independently, navigating ambiguity, collaborating across disciplines, and making thoughtful technical decisions without requiring extensive direction.

A key part of the role is understanding that not every automation problem requires AI. You should be able to evaluate the problem, available data, risk, complexity, and desired outcome and select the most appropriate technology for the solution.
Technical Environment

Candidates may work with technologies and platforms including:
  • Python
  • REST APIs
  • Generative AI and LLMs
  • Agentic AI frameworks
  • LangChain
  • Microsoft Power Platform

  • UiPath
  • Google Cloud Platform
  • Vertex AI
  • Microsoft Azure
  • OpenShift
  • Kubernetes
  • Docker
  • Git
  • Alteryx
  • Intelligent Document Processing
  • Vector databases and enterprise search
  • CI/CD and AI/ML lifecycle tooling
Job Requirements
  • Must be able to work on-site 5 days per week in Charlotte, NC or Irving, TX.
  • Relocation assistance is not available.
  • Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
