Job Description

Recruitment and Outreach (65%)
  • Coordinate and support prospective student recruitment and outreach activities.
  • Plan and facilitate campus visits, high school visits, and recruitment programs.
  • Serve as a liaison with high schools, prospective students, campus partners, and student ambassadors.
  • Assist with the planning and execution of School of Engineering and Admissions recruitment events.
  • Support summer camp operations, including participant services, logistics, staff coordination, and program delivery.
  • Complete administrative and financial processes related to recruitment and outreach activities.
  • Attend recruitment, admissions, and departmental meetings as required.

Front Desk Operations and Student Supervision (20%)
  • Supervise, train, and schedule front desk student employees.
  • Ensure effective front desk operations and customer service for visitors, students, and stakeholders.
  • Manage office supplies, departmental communications, conference room scheduling, and lost-and-found procedures.
  • Support admissions-related communications and mailings.

Strategic Planning and Recruitment Support (10%)
  • Maintain outreach contact databases and recruitment records.
  • Assist with the development of marketing and recruitment materials.
  • Analyze recruitment data and support strategies to improve outreach effectiveness and enrollment outcomes.
  • Assist with planning and implementing recruitment initiatives that align with School of Engineering goals.

Other Duties as Assigned (5%)
  • Perform additional duties and special projects in support of departmental objectives.

Required Qualifications

  1. Graduate student at the University of Kansas.
  2. Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  3. Ability to solve problems and make decisions.
  4. Strong written and oral skills.


Preferred Qualifications

  1. An engineering bachelor's degree is not a must, but it can be helpful.
  2. Experience working independently and on a team.


Position Overview

The Graduate Assistant for Undergraduate Recruitment and Outreach supports the School of Engineering's recruitment, outreach, and visitor engagement efforts. This position coordinates recruitment events, campus and high school visits, summer camp activities, and front desk operations while supervising student employees and assisting with strategic enrollment initiatives. This position works collaboratively with faculty, staff, students, and community partners to promote the School of Engineering and support student recruitment goals.

Position Requirements

During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: (1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or (2) be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or (3) be enrolled in summer session or (4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).

Employment Conditions

(1) Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR.

(2) This is an hourly/non-exempt position. A student employee cannot hold an hourly/non-exempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position (GRA/GTA/GA/RUA/RGA) concurrently.
