Role Overview

We are seeking an Information System Security Engineer (ISSE) for a resource management system. The ISSE will be responsible for the design, implementation, and technical integration of security controls throughout the system lifecycle. This role involves close coordination with Information System Security Officers, system administrators, and developers to maintain a secure architecture and ensure the system operates within approved security boundaries. The position is located onsite in the Washington, DC metro area.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and implement technical security architectures, ensuring secure integration with the existing mission network infrastructure, including network segmentation and access control mechanisms.
  • Engineer and configure security controls (technical, operational, and management) as documented in the System Security Plan (SSP), ensuring alignment with NIST 800-53 baseline requirements.
  • Conduct security engineering assessments during system development, deployment, and modification phases to identify vulnerabilities and recommend mitigations.
  • Collaborate with development teams to incorporate security requirements into the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC), including secure coding practices and security testing.
  • Implement and maintain cryptographic solutions and encryption standards for data at rest and in transit.
  • Evaluate and integrate security patches, updates, and system changes.
  • Support the Certification and Accreditation (C&A) process by providing technical documentation and remediation plans to achieve and sustain Authority to Operate (ATO).
  • Monitor and analyze system logs and security events to identify anomalies and investigate potential incidents.
  • Provide technical guidance on secure configuration management and compliance with security implementation guides.
  • Interface with external security auditors and assessors, responding to technical inquiries.
  • Deliver technical security training and knowledge transfer to system administrators and end-users.
Required Qualifications

Experience: A minimum of five (5) years of experience in information system security engineering roles, with expertise in designing and implementing security solutions for classified networks.

Certifications: One or more of the following certifications are required: Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Information Security Manager (CISM), Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH), GIAC Security Expert (GSE), or an equivalent IAT Level III/IAM Level III certification.

Technical Skills: Proficiency in security technologies including firewalls, VPNs, PKI, SIEM tools, and web application security frameworks. Familiarity with ColdFusion and Oracle is relevant to the system environment.
