Core Responsibilities

Windows & Linux Administration

  • Conduct regular maintenance activities (Windows Server/Linux) patching.
  • Conduct application/server health checks.
  • Support patching and health checks for COTS applications.
  • Manage Active Directory services, including user accounts, group policies, and security settings.
  • Provide technical support to customers for managed applications.
  • Respond to help desk tickets in a timely manner, ensuring excellent customer service.
  • Develop and maintain scripted solutions for synthetic user transactions.
  • Work effectively within a team to address complex technical problems, estimate engineering effort, plan implementation, and rollout system changes.
  • Engage in product initiatives and improvements.
  • Leverage industry and product technical expertise to identify project risks and work efficiently to mitigate them.
  • Provide hands-on assistance to fix stability and scalability issues in a very time-critical environment.
  • Communicate effectively with IT support staff to ensure processes are running smoothly.

AppDynamics Administration (Linux)

  • Install and configure AppDynamics agents (Java, .NET, Node.js, etc.) across various application environments (including Linux).
  • Set up and maintain AppDynamics controllers, ensuring proper connectivity with monitored applications.
  • Assist with agent troubleshooting and installation
  • Monitor application performance using AppDynamics dashboards and alerts.
  • Identify and troubleshoot performance bottlenecks, slow transactions, and application errors.
  • Analyze root causes of performance issues and recommend solutions.
  • Create and maintain custom dashboards, reports, and visualizations for stakeholders.
  • Configure health rules, alerts, and policies to proactively detect and resolve issues.
  • Automate monitoring processes to improve efficiency and reduce manual intervention.
  • Collaborate with development, DevOps, and infrastructure teams to integrate AppDynamics into CI/CD pipelines.
  • Provide training and support to team members on using AppDynamics effectively.
  • Perform regular upgrades, patches, and maintenance of the AppDynamics platform.
  • Ensure the AppDynamics platform is secure, scalable, and aligned with organizational standards.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of configurations, processes, and troubleshooting steps.
  • Document best practices and guidelines for using AppDynamics.

Security & Compliance (STIG)

  • Apply and maintain Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) compliance for all managed systems, including Windows, Linux, and AppDynamics environments.
  • Ensure all systems are configured, maintained, and audited according to DoD and federal security standards.
  • Participate in security assessments, vulnerability remediation, and compliance reporting.
  • Maintain documentation for security controls, configurations, and compliance status.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Thorough knowledge and experience with Active Directory administration.
  • Familiarity with Group Policy administration.
  • Familiarity with advanced scripting techniques (e.g. PowerShell, Selenium).
  • Ability to adapt and learn unfamiliar technologies and programming languages as needed.
  • Thorough knowledge of Windows and RHEL Linux development environments.
  • Strong understanding of application performance monitoring concepts and tools.
  • Hands-on experience with AppDynamics installation, configuration, and administration (including backend).
  • Knowledge of application architectures (e.g., microservices, monolithic, cloud-native).
  • Familiarity with programming languages (e.g., Java, .NET, Python) and application servers (e.g., Tomcat, WebLogic).
  • Experience with infrastructure monitoring and integration with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform).
  • Proficiency in creating dashboards, reports, and alerts in AppDynamics.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, interpersonal, and collaboration abilities.
  • Experience applying and maintaining STIG compliance in federal environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • AppDynamics certification (e.g., AppDynamics Certified Associate or Professional).
  • Experience with other APM tools (e.g., Dynatrace, New Relic).
  • Knowledge of DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Familiarity with containerized environments (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Knowledge of health care information systems and federal health care systems.
  • Current or recent Department of Defense clearance strongly preferred.

Work Environment

  • Monday to Friday 8am-5pm EST, with some weekend activities; flex time allowed.
  • Remote, with occasional office visits in San Antonio, TX.
