Sr DevOps Engineer

Our West Michigan Client has a long term contract opportunity for a Sr DevOps Engineer to join their team. This is a remote role working EST hours.

responsibilities:

• Own release engineering across multiple teams: plan, coordinate and execute deployments that span cross-team dependencies and shared release trains, working directly with product owners, scrum masters, engineers and QA.
• Build and continuously improve the automated deployment paths for our Azure platform as a service applications, along with the networking, identity and secrets configuration those deployments depend on.
• Migrate pipelines and repos from Azure DevOps to GitHub Actions, and build the templates and patterns that make the migration repeatable for other teams.
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines in GitHub Actions for secure, scalable, and repeatable delivery patterns.
• Find the friction in how we deliver today and engineer it away, so teams ship faster and more safely than they did last quarter.
• Develop scripts and tooling (PowerShell, Python, Bash) to replace manual steps and remove toil.
• Create templates and automation to enable developer self-service for repos, pipelines, and containers.
• Enable agile teams to run their own delivery: get them set up, unblock them, and hand capability back to them rather than absorbing the work.
• Troubleshoot build and deployment issues across development teams.
• Support releases up to 2 to 3 nights per week.
• Contribute to documentation and guardrails that improve efficiency, security, and reliability.

qualifications:

Required:

5+ years of experience in DevOps, release engineering or cloud engineering roles with strong software engineering fundamentals.

A genuine engineering mindset. We are looking for people who automate and build, not people who operate a console.

Azure platform as a service expertise, including function apps, App Service, networking and Key Vault.

Deep GitHub Actions experience, plus Azure DevOps Pipelines.

Release engineering experience coordinating deployments across teams with shared dependencies.

Experience running infrastructure, .NET and Maven deployments in production.

Strong scripting skills (PowerShell, Python, Bash).

Well versed in building, running, and debugging apps in C#/.NET, Java, Node.js, TypeScript, etc.

Solid understanding of CI/CD principles and agile delivery practices.

Willingness to support night releases up to 2 to 3 nights per week.

Excellent collaboration and troubleshooting skills, and comfort moving between teams with different stacks.

Preferred:

Kubernetes and GitOps (Argo CD preferred), including Canary and Blue/Green deployment strategies.

Exposure to Google Cloud Platform.

Working knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, YAML).

SAFe agile environment experience.

Kafka, GraphQL, Temporal, LaunchDarkly, SonarQube, Backstage, and mobile app release experience
