Job Title: AI & Biosecurity Research Resident

Location-Remote

Role Summary

We are seeking a Research Resident to work at the intersection of artificial intelligence and biosecurity. This role focuses on exploring how advanced AI systems can impact biological research, identifying potential risks, and developing safeguards to ensure responsible and secure use of emerging technologies.


Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct research on the intersection of AI and biosecurity, including dual-use risks and safety implications.
  • Analyze how AI models (e.g., LLMs, generative models) can influence biological research and biotechnology.
  • Support development of frameworks for AI safety, risk assessment, and responsible use in life sciences.
  • Review scientific literature and emerging trends in synthetic biology, genomics, and AI.
  • Assist in designing experiments, simulations, or evaluations related to biosecurity risks.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (AI researchers, bio scientists, policy experts).
  • Contribute to research reports, white papers, and policy recommendations.
  • Monitor global developments in AI governance, biosecurity policies, and ethical standards.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (or ongoing study) in one of the following:
    • Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Biotechnology
    • Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, or Computer Science
    • Public Policy, Biosecurity, or related interdisciplinary fields
  • Strong analytical and research skills.
  • Basic understanding of:
    • AI/ML concepts (especially generative AI or LLMs)
    • Biological sciences (genetics, molecular biology, or related)
  • Ability to read and synthesize scientific and technical literature.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in research projects (academic, lab, or industry).
  • Familiarity with topics such as:
    • Synthetic biology or gene editing
    • AI safety, alignment, or risk assessment
  • Programming experience (Python, data analysis tools).
  • Exposure to policy, ethics, or governance frameworks in science/technology.
