Application Developer III – Java & SQL

We are seeking a hands-on Application Developer III with strong experience in Java, Spring Boot, Spring Batch, and SQL to develop, maintain, and support enterprise healthcare applications.

The ideal candidate will have healthcare payer experience and a strong technical background in backend development, batch processing, database programming, and API development. This role is focused on hands-on application development rather than team leadership.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain, enhance, and deploy enterprise applications using Java and Spring Boot.
• Develop and support Spring Batch applications and batch-processing solutions.
• Write, maintain, and optimize complex SQL queries and stored procedures.
• Design, develop, and maintain REST APIs and backend services.
• Participate in application design and technical solution development.
• Create and execute unit tests, troubleshoot defects, and improve code quality.
• Participate in code reviews and follow established coding standards.
• Use AI-assisted coding tools to support code generation, refactoring, testing, debugging, and documentation.
• Maintain technical documentation based on functional requirements.
• Support CI/CD pipelines and automated deployments.
• Collaborate with team members in an Agile/Scrum environment.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of professional, hands-on application development experience.
• Strong proficiency in Java, including modern Java versions and features.
• Hands-on experience with Spring Boot and the Spring ecosystem.
• Experience developing and maintaining Spring Batch applications.
• Advanced SQL skills, including complex queries, joins, subqueries, and performance tuning.
• Experience developing, maintaining, and troubleshooting SQL stored procedures.
• Experience designing and developing REST APIs and backend services.
• Strong understanding of object-oriented programming, design patterns, and application architecture.
• Experience with Git/GitHub and source control practices.
• Hands-on experience with AI coding assistants such as GitHub Copilot or similar tools.
• Experience with unit testing, debugging, code reviews, and application troubleshooting.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automated deployments.
• Experience working in Agile/Scrum development environments.
• Healthcare payer or health insurance industry experience is required.
• Must be local to the Detroit area and able to work onsite once per week.

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or an equivalent field required.
