ABOUT THE ROLE

Our Client is seeking an entry-level Engineer 1 to support the design and construction of power-related systems. This role is ideal for candidates with 0-5 years of related engineering experience and an accredited bachelor's degree. The Engineer 1 will apply engineering processes, design criteria, and software applications to develop design options, prepare construction specifications, and support estimate preparation. The position also involves providing guidance, oversight, and quality assurance reviews for approved contractors as they develop design solutions, cost estimates, and construction packages. The Engineer 1 will play a key role in ensuring safety, understanding planning and design processes, collaborating with internal departments, supporting construction and maintenance teams, and providing quality assurance for contractor work. The ideal candidate will possess introductory engineering knowledge, basic problem-solving skills, a strong work ethic, and the ability to build effective relationships with staff and vendors. Experience with mechanical drawings (P&IDs) and a minimum of 2 years of CAD experience are required.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Apply engineering processes, design criteria, and software applications to design and construct power-related systems
  • Support estimate preparation, develop design options, and prepare construction specifications
  • Provide guidance, oversight, and quality assurance reviews for contractors developing design solutions, cost estimates, and construction packages
  • Create and maintain a safe work environment by prioritizing safety
  • Understand and apply planning, design, operation, construction, and maintenance processes
  • Understand the functions and activities of various internal departments involved in design, construction, and maintenance
  • Understand and utilize design practices, work processes, and all software applications used in design
  • Adhere to industry and company (Southern Company) design standards
  • Support the development of design standards and criteria for the system
  • Assist construction and maintenance teams during daily operations
  • Estimate materials for projects and transmit construction packages with supporting specifications
  • Walk down, mark up, and update mechanical drawings (P&IDs)
  • Build effective relationships with plant staff, design engineering staff, and vendors
WHAT YOU BRING
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited institution
  • 0-5 years of related engineering experience
  • Minimum 2 years of CAD experience
  • Experience with walking down, marking up, and updating mechanical drawings (P&IDs)
  • Introductory engineering knowledge and basic discipline software proficiency
  • Basic problem-solving skills
  • Ability to make independent decisions within procedures and under supervision
  • Strong work ethic and positive attitude
  • Ability to build effective relationships with plant staff, engineering teams, and vendors
  • Understanding of engineering processes, design criteria, and industry standards
  • Ability to support estimate preparation, design options, and construction specifications
