Description:
Systems Operations Engineer, Pega SRE

We are not accepting C2C or 1099 arrangements.

Location: Charlotte, NC or Irving, TX (3 days onsite required)
Employment Type: Contract (18 months, extension possible, conversion eligible)
About the Role

We are seeking a Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) with Pega platform experience to support mission-critical Payment Operations applications. In this role, you will ensure the reliability, scalability, and performance of applications built on the Pega Smart Investigate platform.

You will operate within a production environment while helping build and mature a production-fix (PFIX) ecosystem designed to improve system stability and reduce operational load. This is a hands-on application-focused SRE role, ideal for engineers who excel at bridging software engineering and production operations.
What You'll Do
  • Own production reliability for Pega-based payment investigation applications, ensuring high availability and performance.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex production issues, including payment case processing failures and workflow disruptions.
  • Improve observability by designing and enhancing monitoring, alerting, and logging frameworks.
  • Drive incident response and root cause analysis, leading blameless postmortems and implementing long-term fixes.
  • Automate operational tasks to reduce manual toil and improve system resilience.
  • Define and track SLIs/SLOs, improving service health and operational visibility.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, release management, and business teams to improve system reliability.
  • Identify gaps in payment operations processes and proactively design solutions before issues impact users.
  • Participate in on-call rotations, including occasional weekend support.
Minimum Qualifications
  • 2+ years of experience in Site Reliability Engineering, DevOps, or production support roles
  • Experience supporting Pega platforms in production environments
  • Hands-on experience with Kubernetes/OpenShift environments
  • Experience with observability tools (e.g., Grafana, Prometheus, Splunk, AppDynamics)
  • Strong understanding of incident management, root cause analysis, and system reliability practices
  • Experience with scripting or automation (Python and/or Java)
  • Foundational knowledge of databases and distributed systems
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Pega Smart Investigate or workflow automation platforms
  • Familiarity with AutoSys or enterprise schedulers
  • Background in financial services or corporate banking environments
  • Interest in applying AI/automation to operations and reliability
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence across teams
Key Characteristics
  • You think like an SRE: proactive, systems-oriented, and automation-driven
  • You take ownership of production systems and prioritize reliability and scalability
  • You are comfortable working in high-stakes environments such as financial operations
  • You identify problems early and drive solutions end-to-end
Additional Details
  • Team: Supports shared services operations technology (Payments, Regulatory Ops, Financial Crimes)
  • Work Model: Hybrid (3 days onsite mandatory)
