Job Description Summary:
The M365 Systems Administrator will be responsible for managing and maintaining the Microsoft stack, such as M365, Entra ID, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, InTune, etc. This role is dedicated to implementing, optimizing, and supporting the modern workplace that helps support and deliver transformative solutions to the SOLV Energy workforce. This role carries primary ownership of the enterprise Endpoint Patch Management program and plays a key role in the IT change management process.

This role is hybrid, with regular in-office presence in San Diego, CA. Edison, NJ or Bend, OR. Specific location details and expectations will be discussed during the interview process.

Job Description:

Position Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Perform day-to-day activities within the Entra ID and M365 tenant including managing new user provisioning, shared mailboxes, dynamic distribution groups, roles, user permissions, security groups, etc.
  • Collaborate with cloud application and network administrators to ensure efficient operation of the end user computing environment
  • Manage 3rd party application installation and patching for endpoints
  • Create technical documents of implementations, break-fix solutions, etc
  • Assist in creating materials for end-user documentation and frequently asked questions
  • Analyze and monitor for outages, trends, and global issues with Microsoft stack applications and systems
  • Work alongside other internal IT teams to develop solutions, processes, standards, and best practices that provide optimal business solutions
  • Assist in the development and implement project plans, risk assessments and contingency plans
  • Assist in the design and implementation of monitoring, configuration management and reporting solutions
  • Performance Monitoring, Server Maintenance, and Troubleshooting
  • Stay current on latest trends in Microsoft stack applications and systems
  • Manage new user accounts and mailbox creation.
  • Support shared mailboxes, dynamic distribution groups, roles, user permission, security groups, etc.
  • Own and execute the enterprise endpoint patch management program across Windows (via Microsoft Autopatch) and macOS (via Intune update policies), including ring configuration, pilot testing, production rollouts, and compliance reporting
  • Manage third-party application patching using Patch My PC (PMPC), including publishing critical applications, enforcing automatic updates org-wide, and triaging/remediating patch failures
  • Drive CVE remediation efforts for endpoints, including driver and firmware updates (e.g., Dell ControlVault, Dell drivers), and coordinate with Cybersecurity on vulnerability prioritization
  • Build and maintain executive-level patch compliance dashboards and reporting to support leadership visibility and audit readiness
  • Author and submit change management requests (Freshservice) for all endpoint configuration and patching changes, ensuring CAB (Change Advisory Board) approval prior to production deployment
  • Participate in the Change Advisory Board process, presenting risk assessments and rollback plans for infrastructure and endpoint changes
  • Manage Intune device compliance policies, AutoPilot deployment profiles, and endpoint security configurations including Defender ATP, tamper protection, and account lockout policies
  • Support M&A integration activities for the Microsoft 365 workstream, including tenant migrations, user provisioning, mail routing, and Intune policy alignment for acquired entities
  • Develop and maintain SOPs and runbooks for recurring operational processes such as Windows feature updates, patch cycles, and endpoint onboarding

Minimum Skills or Experience Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or equivalent experience
  • 5 years minimum experience as a M365 System Administrator or equivalent combination of experience and education
  • Knowledge of major Microsoft cloud-based systems including Entra ID, M365, InTune, AutoPilot, Enterprise Mobility + Security, Defender ATP, etc.
  • Powershell scripting and automation
  • Familiarity with ITIL-based change management processes, including CAB submissions, risk assessments, and rollback planning
  • Experience with Freshservice for incident, change, and request management
  • Experience supporting M&A or tenant migration projects in a Microsoft 365 environment is a plus
  • Customer escalation and conflict resolution skills required
  • Resource planning and mitigation management
