Job Description:

Job Title: Software Engineer- Quality Engineering III

Location: Cincinnati, OH (Onsite)

Length: 6 months

Pay Range: $60-$68

Role Overview

As a Quality Engineer, you will own quality strategy, planning, execution coordination, and quality outcomes for a squad, product area, or project in a regulated banking environment. This is a hands-on technical role for someone who can guide quality engineering practices across complex, integrated systems while also stepping directly into critical testing work when needed.

You will partner with product management, design, development, architecture, operations, and other quality leaders to define risk-based test strategies, estimate testing effort, coordinate globally distributed execution, and provide clear quality status, release readiness, and risk recommendations. The role includes coordination responsibilities across engineers in the United States, Mexico, and India, but does not include direct people-management responsibilities.

The ideal candidate has experience across modern quality engineering practices, including UI automation, API testing, database validation, CI/CD integration, exploratory testing, compliance-aware testing, and release validation. Experience testing IVR, contact center, telephony, or customer communication platforms is highly preferred. Experience with the Cyara testing platform is a significant plus, but not required.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the quality strategy for a squad, product area, or project, owning test plans, quality approach, risk coverage, and quality outcomes for delivered features.
  • Define and maintain test plans that include scope, objectives, assumptions, dependencies, environments, test data, entry criteria, exit criteria, schedule, resources, risks, and reporting expectations.
  • Estimate testing effort for features, releases, and projects using practical estimation techniques, historical data, risk, complexity, dependencies, automation coverage, and team capacity.
  • Coordinate testing activities across multiple quality engineers and, when needed, across multiple squads to ensure end-to-end coverage from the IVR and customer interaction flows through APIs, and integrations
  • Coordinate globally distributed testing work across engineers in the United States, Mexico, and India, including task sequencing, handoffs, status consolidation, dependency management, and follow-up on blockers.
  • Mentor and guide quality engineers of all levels within the squad by delegating testing tasks appropriately, reviewing test plans and test cases, providing feedback, and helping maintain consistent quality standards.
  • Drive adoption of testing and quality engineering best practices, including risk-based testing, BDD/TDD collaboration, automation-first thinking, test data discipline, traceability, defect prevention, and continuous improvement.
  • Act as the primary quality point of contact for the squad when working with product management, design, development leads, release/change management, and other stakeholders.
  • Communicate quality status, test progress, release readiness, defects, risks, mitigations, and trade-offs clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Take a hands-on role in critical testing activities, including complex feature validation, IVR or contact-center journey testing, high-priority defect verification, regression triage, and production validation.
  • Participate in release readiness reviews and go/no-go meetings, providing a quality perspective and ensuring that high-risk issues are visible, understood, and addressed before launch.
  • Support release and change management by overseeing final quality checks for production deployments, coordinating post-release validations, and monitoring for customer-impacting issues.
  • Collaborate with other Quality Engineers, engineering leads, architects, and quality leadership to align on standards, share improvements, and lead cross-team quality initiatives.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate is an experienced quality engineer who can combine hands-on technical depth with planning, coordination, mentoring, and strong stakeholder communication.
  • 7+ years of experience in software quality engineering, test automation, software testing, or closely related technology roles, with flexibility based on demonstrated impact and scope of responsibility.
  • Proven track record leading quality assurance or quality engineering efforts for major projects, products, releases, or complex integrated systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to take responsibility for product quality at a team or product-area level, including examples of preventing major issues, improving release confidence, or strengthening quality outcomes.
  • Strong experience creating test strategies, test plans, test estimates, execution schedules, quality metrics, release recommendations, and risk mitigation plans.
  • Broad knowledge of test automation across application layers, including UI automation, API testing, database validation, integration testing, and regression automation.
  • Familiarity with cloud environments, distributed systems, infrastructure dependencies, and environment readiness as they relate to quality engineering.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain quality concerns, technical findings, risks, and recommendations to developers, product managers, engineering leaders, and other stakeholders.
  • High ownership, accountability, adaptability, and judgment when navigating changing priorities, schedule pressure, production issues, and release-risk decisions.

Preferred Experience
  • Experience testing IVR, contact center, telephony, voice, customer communication, or omnichannel customer experience platforms.
  • Hands-on experience with the Cyara testing platform, including IVR journey validation, test case design, regression execution, monitoring, or automated voice-channel testing. This is a significant plus but not required.
  • Experience validating end-to-end customer journeys that span IVR, APIs, databases, third-party services, or downstream banking systems.
  • Experience in banking, financial services, payments, lending, digital servicing, customer care, or another regulated industry.

Success Profile

A successful Quality Engineer is recognized as a quality champion who improves both immediate delivery outcomes and long-term engineering capability. They balance hands-on execution with technical leadership, influence, and operational discipline.
  • Solves quality challenges at the system level, including defining practical strategies to test complex distributed systems, integration-heavy workflows, IVR journeys, and applications with multiple downstream dependencies.
  • Uses data-driven approaches to identify quality risks, defect patterns, automation gaps, escape trends, environment instability, and root causes across teams or releases.
  • Helps guide the team through critical production issues or major defects by coordinating troubleshooting, involving the right partners, validating fixes, and ensuring preventive follow-up actions such as additional tests, monitoring, or process improvements.
  • Provides technical quality leadership to the squad and may consult with other teams facing quality challenges.
  • Works closely with quality engineering leaders to report status, advocate for needed improvements, and align quality initiatives with business goals.
