Job Summary:
The Cost Engineer will serve as the subject matter expert (SME) in unconventional oil and gas
completions cost details. He/she will be responsible for establishing and implementing annual
budget / quarterly outlook / ad hoc scenario guidance, provide support and consultation to
execution team, and perform cost and budgetary analysis, among other functions. This person
must be a self-starter and should have excellent communication and organizational skills, team-
building know-how and project execution experience utilizing project controls and budgetary
systems.
Job Duties:
Develop and continually improve budgeting, financial projections, and capital forecast
Develop financial models and analyze them to support strategic initiatives
Provide leadership and strategic thinking to projects including planning, cost estimating,
contracting and tracking
Support Execution Planning & Performance and Well Delivery and Well Servicing teams and
with data-driven analysis
Manage capital cost forecasting and AFE creation software (PLEX), owning standard
configurations and item rates
Prepare regular reports on an annual/quarterly/monthly/weekly basis or as needed
Present Capital Projects monthly / quarterly financial reports
Analyze the trends of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), relating to budget / outlook vs
actuals
Monitor KPIs and identify the cause of any unexpected variances
Dive deeply into financial data and become a subject matter expert to provide additional
insight
Identify and understand business challenges; propose and create solutions
Collaborate with finance and accounting teams to ensure accurate cost allocation, tracking
of capital expenditures, and compliance with financial reporting requirements.
Develop and maintain effective relationships with business partners and cross-functional
teams at all levels of the organization
Performs other/additional duties as assigned by Supervisor
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Business or related field required
Minimum three (3) years’ experience in a technical engineering role supporting stim and
post-stim operations
Experience in unconventional oil and gas field execution (drilling, completions, operations,
or facilities) required.
Excellent communication, leadership, organization, planning, and supervision skills
Solid understanding of project management principles, cost control techniques, and
financial analysis
Knowledge of PLEX or other industry-standard cost engineering software, such as Oracle
Primavera Unifier, P6 or similar cost management tools. Familiarity with financial systems
and tools (e.g., ERP systems, financial modeling software, WellView / Siteview) and ability to
integrate financial data with engineering and operational data.
Interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact with various management
levels
Superior attention to detail and ability to successfully manage multiple competing priorities
while maintaining a view of the big picture
Ability to comfortably work on several projects at once
Ability to motivate and leverage resources to provide appropriate support for multiple
projects
Ability to work and lead different groups to work together as a team
Strong Excel, Word, and PowerPoint skills
Proficiency in data visualization tools such as Spotfire, Power BI, or similar platforms, with
the ability to create visually compelling and interactive dashboards preferred.
