Summary

About This Role

A leading automotive manufacturer is seeking a Civil Structural Field Engineer to support capital construction and facility projects at its manufacturing campus. This is a hands-on field engineering role focused on civil and structural construction, including foundations, steel erection, building-system installations, inspections, and commissioning within an active industrial environment.

You will serve as a key technical resource in the field, reviewing submittals, shop drawings, design drawings, specifications, and contractor RFIs while overseeing contractors and coordinating with equipment vendors, facilities teams, and manufacturing groups. The role also supports construction administration, schedule and quality coordination, code and OSHA compliance, planned utility outages, and weekend or plant-shutdown work through project commissioning and final handover.

100% onsite in San Antonio, Texas

 

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate architectural, civil, and structural installations (foundations, steel erection) and commissioning activities
  • Provide subject-matter expert review of product and equipment submittals, shop drawings, engineering design drawings, specifications, and contractor RFIs
  • Coordinate equipment factory testing, delivery, installation, commissioning, and handover with construction contractors and equipment vendors
  • Coordinate weekend and plant-shutdown work with contractors, plant facilities groups, and manufacturing shops
  • Conduct continuous work-progress inspections
  • Inspect civil and structural building systems for compliance with project specifications, quality standards, and applicable codes
  • Support construction administration: schedule coordination, quality confirmations, weekly coordination meetings, and planned utility outages
  • Oversee civil and structural contractors for adherence to project delivery methods, schedule milestones, and cross-group coordination
  • Prepare field engineering status reports on work progress and schedule for project managers
  • Apply safety procedures and OSHA requirements for civil and structural installations, including Lock-Out/Tag-Out, electrical safe work practices, control of hazardous energy, and arc-flash safety
  • Provide input and feedback to improve project technical specifications and standards

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor''''s degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline
  • 5 to 10 years of overall engineering experience
  • 5+ years in architectural, civil, and/or structural design
  • 2+ years in construction management
  • Experience developing design criteria for architectural, civil, and structural systems
  • Automotive facility experience (engine, transmission, or vehicle assembly) or comparable heavy industrial manufacturing
  • Good organizational, communication, and schedule-management skills
  • Preferred: Bluebeam and AutoCAD proficiency

 

Required Skills

  • Field engineering for architectural, civil, and structural building-system installations, foundations, steel erection, and commissioning
  • Submittal, shop-drawing, and design-drawing review and resolution of contractor RFIs
  • Construction management and contractor / vendor oversight within active manufacturing environments
  • Construction administration, schedule coordination, quality confirmations, coordination meetings, and utility-outage planning

  • Applying prevailing building codes and industry standards (IBC, NEC, NESC, NFPA, ASME, AMCA, ARI, AWS, ASHRAE, FM)
  • Safety and OSHA compliance for civil/structural work — Lock-Out/Tag-Out, control of hazardous energy, and arc-flash safety
  • Field engineering status reporting and clear written/verbal technical communication
  • Software / platforms: Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Project; Bluebeam and AutoCAD (desired)
