Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead the end-to-end migration of on-premises VMware workloads to Amazon Web Services (AWS). This role will be responsible for planning, execution, stakeholder communication, and successful delivery of cloud migration initiatives while ensuring minimal disruption to business operations.
Key Responsibilities
Project Planning & Execution
Define project scope, goals, deliverables, and success criteria for VMware-to-AWS migration
Develop and maintain detailed project plans, timelines, and budgets
Manage all phases of migration: assessment, planning, design, migration, and optimization
Coordinate application discovery, dependency mapping, and migration wave planning
Stakeholder Management
Serve as the primary point of contact for business and technical stakeholders
Facilitate regular status meetings, executive updates, and reporting
Align cross-functional teams including infrastructure, security, networking, and application owners
Technical Coordination
Work closely with cloud architects and engineers to implement migration strategies (rehost, replatform, refactor)
Oversee VMware environment assessment and AWS landing zone readiness
Ensure adherence to AWS best practices for security, scalability, and cost optimization
Risk & Issue Management
Identify risks, dependencies, and constraints; develop mitigation strategies
Manage issues and escalate appropriately to leadership
Ensure business continuity and disaster recovery considerations are addressed
Vendor & Resource Management
Coordinate internal teams and external vendors/partners
Manage resource allocation and ensure optimal utilization
Required Qualifications
5+ years of project management experience in IT infrastructure or cloud projects
Proven experience managing large-scale cloud migrations (VMware to AWS preferred)
Strong understanding of VMware environments (vSphere, ESXi, vCenter)
Familiarity with AWS services (EC2, S3, VPC, RDS, IAM, CloudWatch)
Experience with migration tools such as AWS Migration Hub, Application Migration Service (MGN), or similar
Proficiency in project management methodologies (Agile, Scrum, Waterfall, or hybrid)
