Position: API Platform Architect (Kong Gateway & Konnect)
Location: Onsite- Atlanta, GA (Relocation; OK)
Duration: 6+ Months

Job Description

We are seeking a senior API Platform Architect with deep expertise in Kong Konnect, Kong Gateway, and enterprise API governance to own end-to-end architecture across on-prem and Google Cloud Platform environments. The ideal candidate leads ARB reviews, defines API governance standards, and drives security, observability, and scalability design.

Must-Have Skills (Required)

10+ years in integration/API architecture — minimum 2 enterprise API gateway programs
Kong Konnect / Kong Gateway — Control Plane, Data Plane architecture — on-prem and Google Cloud Platform
decK, declarative config, workspaces, and RBAC — Kong configuration management
Security patterns — mTLS, OAuth2/OIDC, JWT, API keys, rate limiting, WAF, secrets/cert management
Cloud & on-prem — Google Cloud Platform (VPC, load balancing), Linux, networking fundamentals
Observability integration — Dynatrace, logging, audit and compliance controls
CI/CD and IaC principles — Git, Git branching strategies, Terraform pipelines
Experience leading ARB (Architecture Review Board) reviews
Ability to define API governance standards — design-first approach and lifecycle management
Proven experience with target architecture, HADR, and performance/scalability design
Strong collaboration with Security, Network, Infra, and Product teams

Good to Have (Preferred)

Experience with Apigee/Kong migration programs — multi-org and multi-region topologies
SRE, Chaos engineering, and resiliency patterns
Service mesh — Istio, Linkerd
Cost/performance optimization and capacity sizing for high-TPS gateways
Background in multi-cloud API gateway architectures
