Summary

Role:  Mechanical Engineering Department Head for Fulltime

Location: Dallas TX (Will relocate)

 

JOB Summary:

The Department head role combines subject matter expertise in mechanical and plumbing systems with department-level oversight of design standards, technical development, quality assurance, and team management. The position requires a strong background in complex commercial, industrial, and manufacturing projects.

 

Job DUTIES:

 

Technical Leadership:

Serve as the firm''''s Subject Matter Expert (SME) in Mechanical and Plumbing systems.
Establish, implement, and maintain mechanical and plumbing design processes and standards.
Stay informed of industry best practices, technologies, and trends to ensure C1S can effectively compete for projects and talent.
 

Department Oversight & People Management:

Support talent acquisition and talent management of mechanical and plumbing staff
Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Coordinate with other department heads and project leadership to allocate resources effectively and meet project timelines.
Manage production and workload for mechanical design team.
 

Training & Mentorship:

Identify and prioritize the technical training needs of the mechanical and plumbing design team members; allocate time and resources to ensure the team’s technical skills are keeping pace with the team’s growth.
Mentor junior and mid-level engineers, supporting individual and team growth goals.
Support onboarding of new design team members to ensure they are trained in C1S design processes.
 

Quality Assurance and Quality Control:

Manage and train QA/QC processes to ensure technical accuracy, constructability, and code compliance.
Oversee QA/QC on active projects, providing feedback and coaching in real time.
 

QUALIFICATIONS - education and work experience:

 

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field

Licensed Professional Engineer in Mechanical Design, NCEES preferred

15+ years of mechanical design experience with MEP consulting or design-build firms.

5+ years in a team leadership or department management role.

Proficient in REVIT, Trane Trace, and other mechanical design software.

Knowledgeable in mechanical and plumbing design criteria related to advanced manufacturing facilities, cleanrooms, data centers, and other critical environments.

Strong interpersonal and people skills. Ability to motivate and influence others.

Excellent time management and communication skills.

Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.

 

PHYSICAL / SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Will require some travel, up to 25%.

Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, bend and reach. Ability to reach with hands and arms.

Occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
