The Opportunity

Our client is a New York-based research organization at the forefront of computational biochemistry and drug discovery. They leverage proprietary supercomputing technology and state-of-the-art machine learning to understand biological molecules at an atomic level.

We are seeking an exceptional Lead Technical Program Manager – ML Research & Scientific Computing to join a world-class team of ML researchers and engineers. In this role, you will be the connective tissue between high-level research strategy and day-to-day technical execution, helping to shape the future of how ML is applied to biophysics and drug design.


Core Responsibilities

In this high-impact position, you will drive the lifecycle of complex machine learning projects. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Project Orchestration: Coordinate the daily execution of ML projects, ensuring researchers and engineers remain aligned on milestones and technical deliverables.

  • Strategic Collaboration: Work closely with research leads and senior management on high-priority strategic initiatives, risk-mitigation efforts, and infrastructure scaling.

  • External Partnerships: Manage critical relationships with vendors and third-party partners to support the group''s technological needs.

  • Data Strategy: Oversee the acquisition, curation, and management of large-scale scientific datasets essential for training robust ML models.

  • Interdisciplinary Liaison: Facilitate communication between ML specialists, biophysicists, and software engineers to bridge the gap between computational theory and practical drug discovery.


Key Areas of Focus

Theclient is currently advancing several frontier ML applications, including:

  • Generative Modeling: Developing models to identify novel molecules for specific drug discovery targets.

  • Predictive Analytics: Building tools to predict the Pharmacokinetics (PK) and ADME (Absorption, Distribution, Metabolism, and Excretion) properties of small molecules.

  • Molecular Simulation: Enhancing the accuracy of molecular dynamics and 3D structure prediction.

  • LLMs in Science: Applying Large Language Models to complex problems in molecular science and biophysics.


Candidate Requirements

The ideal candidate is a technical leader who thrives in intellectually rigorous environments.

  • Technical Background: A degree or significant professional background in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related quantitative field.

  • Project Leadership: Proven experience coordinating complex technical projects or leading interdisciplinary teams, preferably within a research or high-tech setting.

  • Communication Excellence: The ability to distill complex technical concepts into actionable plans and communicate effectively with both technical experts and executive leadership.

  • Problem Solving: A demonstrated ability to manage risk and navigate the uncertainties inherent in cutting-edge research and development.
