Location: 100% REMOTE - (or able to work EST hours)
Contract Duration: 12 months+

Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Azure DevOps Engineer to support a large-scale Azure platform transformation initiative. The current Azure environment consists of multiple subscriptions, shared services, identity and networking dependencies, and approximately 10+ applications. The goal is to establish a modern, governed, Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) driven Azure platform and gradually migrate workloads from the legacy environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess the existing Azure estate and engage with stakeholders to gather technical and business requirements.
• Identify unused resources, cost optimization opportunities, and decommissioning candidates.
• Define a pragmatic target-state Azure architecture and subscription strategy.
• Provide high-level migration plans, effort estimates, and implementation timelines.
• Design and build reusable Terraform modules for:
• Azure Landing Zones
• Networking
• Identity and access management
• Shared platform services
• Deploy and validate foundational platform components.
• Support the implementation of a governed, code-managed Azure platform.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to enable future workload migrations.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, stand-ups, and technical reviews.
• Work independently while providing technical leadership and guidance to junior engineers.

Required Skills & Experience

• Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure platform engineering.
• Advanced expertise in Terraform and Infrastructure as Code.
• Proven experience with GitHub Actions and CI/CD automation.
• Strong understanding of Azure networking, security, and identity services.
• Experience designing and implementing Azure landing zones and multi-subscription environments.
• Ability to engage stakeholders, gather requirements, and translate them into technical solutions.
• Experience working in complex cloud migration and transformation programs.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Terraform automation tools such as Atlantis, Digger, or similar TACOS platforms.
• Strong networking background, including hub-and-spoke architectures, connectivity, and security design.
• Experience operating within established engineering standards, reusable modules, and governance frameworks.
