Senior Software Engineer (Test Systems & Manufacturing)

Location: Burnsville, MN

Schedule: Onsite, First Shift (Flexible Start Time Between 6:00 AM and 9:00 AM)

Employment Type: Contract-to-Hire, 12 Months with Potential for Full-Time Conversion

Overview

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to support a test engineering organization responsible for commercial and defense-related sensor products. This position plays a key role in the design, development, troubleshooting, and integration of software used in production test systems and manufacturing environments.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on engineer who enjoys solving complex technical problems, collaborating across disciplines, and working closely with hardware, software, and test equipment in support of production operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, maintain, and enhance software applications used for manufacturing test systems and production equipment.
  • Troubleshoot software, hardware, and test-system issues that impact production operations.
  • Lead the development and implementation of test software solutions supporting new and existing products.
  • Collaborate with engineers, technicians, and operators to identify root causes and resolve technical challenges.
  • Support verification, validation, and requirements traceability activities throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Develop and maintain engineering processes, procedures, and best practices related to test software development.
  • Review software designs, provide technical recommendations, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Present project updates, technical findings, and design reviews to engineering teams and leadership.
  • Support modernization efforts for existing test platforms and manufacturing solutions.
  • Participate in cross-functional projects involving software, electrical, systems, and manufacturing engineering teams.


Requirements

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or another STEM-related discipline.
  • Minimum of 6 years of relevant software development experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong software development experience using Visual Basic (VB/VB.NET).
  • Working knowledge of C# and/or C.
  • Experience developing, maintaining, or troubleshooting software used in testing, manufacturing, or production environments.
  • Strong problem-solving and debugging skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with LabVIEW.
  • Familiarity with software-controlled test equipment, such as:
  • Oscilloscopes
  • Digital multimeters
  • Signal generators
  • Power supplies
  • Environmental or thermal chambers
  • Understanding of RF and digital electronics.
  • Experience supporting manufacturing, test, or production-floor operations.
  • Familiarity with aerospace, defense, avionics, or other highly regulated industries.
  • Knowledge of requirements traceability, verification, and validation processes.
  • Experience with CI/CD practices and automated testing methodologies.
  • Familiarity with Agile development environments and tools such as Jira.
  • Understanding of avionics communication protocols and interfaces, including MIL-STD-1553, ARINC, CAN, RS232, RS485, or IEEE-1394.
