Technical Data Analyst – Financial Fraud Investigations
Contract-to-Hire | 1 Year | Hybrid – New York, NY 10003
About the Role
We are seeking a Technical Data Analyst to support the migration to a new case management system that will transform how tax fraud and financial fraud investigations are conducted. In this role, you will not be performing investigations directly but will design and implement the data flows, integrations, and reporting structures that empower investigators to uncover fraudulent activity more efficiently. This position requires deep SQL expertise, experience working with customer-facing systems, and the ability to optimize data pipelines to meet strict SLAs.
What you’ll be responsible for
Working closely with product managers and investigation teams to understand the unique workflows involved in tax fraud and financial fraud cases.
Designing and implementing new workflows within the case management system to enable investigators to act quickly and effectively.
Translating business and investigative requirements into highly efficient SQL queries that retrieve and transform data for investigator-facing tools.
Partnering with data engineers to integrate new data sources and ensure real-time, accurate data availability.
Writing clear requirements (Jira stories) for engineering teams to support data integrations, workflows, and reporting.
Supporting testing, UAT, and validation of new workflows to ensure accuracy and performance.
Mapping data elements from investigation flows into existing data tables and consolidating them into a unified “mega table” for analysis and reporting.
Reducing query loading times and optimizing performance to meet strict SLAs for investigators.
Conducting deep data analysis to compare, validate, and transform information into actionable insights for investigators.
Creating documentation and presenting findings to stakeholders and leadership.
Required Experience/Skills
4+ years of heavy, current SQL experience, with a track record of writing and optimizing complex queries.
4+ years of experience with customer-facing systems (investigation, operations, or financial systems).
Strong background in data analysis and operations, with the ability to structure workflows that support investigative needs.
Experience defining precise requirements and supporting testing/validation of system integrations.
Ability to deliver accurate, fresh data quickly while meeting strict SLAs.
Excellent communication skills for cross-functional collaboration with product managers, engineers, and analysts.
Nice-to-Haves
Experience with Python for ETL and pipeline support.
Background in operations analytics or data modeling.
Familiarity with GitHub, Splunk, Redshift, or related tools.
Experience in designing workflows for investigation or case management systems.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related quantitative discipline preferred.
