Entry-Level Cable Technician

Job Overview:

TEKsystems is seeking Entry-Level Cable Technicians to support large-scale data center infrastructure builds. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to start a career in telecommunications and structured cabling.
Technicians will work alongside lead technicians to help build and support the physical cable infrastructure throughout the data center. Training will be provided on industry standards, cabling practices, and safety procedures.

Responsibilities:

• Drop and route cable through walls and data center pathways using fish tape and other methods
• Pull copper and fiber cables throughout the data center
• Perform pre-termination work: organizing, dressing, labeling, and determining cable length and slack
• Properly suspend and support cable using:
  • Cable trays
  • J-hooks
  • D-rings
  • Bridal rings
  • Trapeze systems
• Assist with rack and pathway installations
• Install grounding for racks, equipment, and cabling as required
• Perform fire-stopping procedures, including:
  • Installing sleeves
  • Pulling cable through sleeves
  • Core penetrations through firewalls
• Terminate low-voltage devices (training provided)
• Read and follow prints and diagrams
• Accurately complete all required paperwork, including timesheets and work orders
• Adhere to all company, customer, and industry safety and quality standards
• Perform additional duties as assigned

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Interest in telecommunications or structured cabling
• Basic understanding or exposure to:
  • Cable installation
  • Low-voltage cabling
  • Cat5 / Cat6 cabling
• Ability to work in a team environment
• Strong attendance and punctuality
• Willingness to learn and take direction
• Flexibility to work extended hours when needed

Job Type & Location
This is a Contract position based out of Sandston, VA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $23.00/hr.
