Summary

Title: QA Automation Engineer ( Windows UI & Web Automation )

Duration : 12 months+ Contract

Location: Boston, MA ( 3 days per week onsite )

 

Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced QA Automation Engineer to support a large-scale QA automation initiative, with a primary focus on defining, evaluating, implementing, and supporting an automation framework for Windows UI applications.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience building and implementing automation frameworks, developing automated tests for Windows and Web applications, and applying QA best practices, testing strategies, tools, and metrics.

The role will also involve extending automation capabilities to Web UI applications, integrating automation with test management and tracking tools, and improving the efficiency, scalability, reliability, and maintainability of the overall QA process.

Key Responsibilities

·       Contribute to defining the technology stack, infrastructure design, and testing approach for the automation framework.

·       Support the scoping and specification of tools required to build an effective automation solution.

·       Collaborate with QA and Application Engineering teams to advance automation strategies.

·       Evaluate and implement a modular, scalable automation framework for Windows UI applications with extensibility to Web UI applications.

·       Define and establish core automation framework components, including:

-          Test case management

-          Object repositories

-          Logging

-          Reporting

-          Data-driven testing

-          Configuration management

·       Evaluate automation tools and libraries and develop proofs of concept (POCs) and ROI analyses.

·       Define adoption criteria, coding standards, and automation best practices.

·       Develop reliable and maintainable functional, regression, and smoke test suites.

·       Implement parallel test execution and optimize automation for speed and stability.

·       Establish error-management strategies, deterministic test data, and environment controls.

·       Integrate automated testing with build pipelines and test management tools.

·       Automate test reporting and publish actionable QA metrics.

·       Partner with developers, QA analysts, and product owners to define:

-          Testable requirements

-          Acceptance criteria

-          Risk-based test coverage

·       Extend the automation framework to support Web UI automation, including technologies such as Selenium.

·       Assess tools for Web Load Testing as an extension of the automation framework.

·       Enable unified reporting and artifact management across different test suite types.

·       Create clear technical documentation, examples, and onboarding materials.

·       Conduct training for QA engineers and stakeholders.

·       Mentor team members and contribute to continuous improvement of QA processes.

Required Skills & Experience

·       Strong experience implementing and supporting QA automation frameworks.

·       Significant experience with Windows UI automation.

·       Experience developing automated tests for Windows Desktop and Web applications.

·       Experience with Web/Browser automation.

·       Experience with API/Services testing automation.

·       Strong understanding of QA methodologies, testing strategies, tools, and metrics.

·       Experience with programming/scripting languages such as:

-          C#

-          .NET

-          JavaScript

-          Python

-          PowerShell

·       Experience with test framework design, implementation, and maintenance.

·       Knowledge of relational databases and SQL queries.

·       Experience integrating automation with test management and tracking tools.

·       Experience with CI/CD or build pipeline integration.

·       Strong understanding of test data management, environment controls, logging, reporting, and error handling.

·       Experience with cloud platforms, such as AWS or Azure.

·       Strong collaboration, communication, mentoring, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

·       Experience with Selenium or other Web UI automation frameworks.

·       Experience with SaaS/Cloud application testing and understanding of supporting infrastructure.

·       Experience with ERP applications.

·       Experience with Web Load Testing.

·       Experience with transit scheduling and operations management applications, such as HASTUS, Trapeze FX, or Trapeze OPS, is a plus.

·       Experience developing POCs and ROI analyses for automation tools.

·       Experience establishing automation coding standards and adoption criteria.

·       Experience mentoring QA engineers and leading automation best-practice initiatives.
