Position Summary

This role supports an IT QA Automation initiative with a focus on defining, reviewing, assessing, and implementing an automation framework for testing Windows UI applications.

The engineer will:
  • Collaborate with QA and application engineering teams.
  • Evaluate and select automation tools and frameworks.
  • Design scalable automation solutions.
  • Streamline test execution processes.
  • Improve overall QA effectiveness.
  • Extend automation coverage to web-based applications.
  • Integrate automation with test management and tracking tools.
Required Experience & Technical Background
  • Expertise implementing and supporting automation frameworks, especially for Windows UI applications.
  • Experience scripting and automating tests for Windows and web applications.
  • Strong understanding of QA best practices, methodologies, tools, and metrics.
  • SaaS and Cloud application testing experience.
  • Strong understanding of infrastructure concepts.
  • Ability to collaborate, mentor, and share knowledge with team members.
  • Experience developing and implementing UI automation for:
    • Windows Applications
    • Web Applications
  • Experience driving testing innovation and process improvement.
  • Programming and scripting experience using:
    • C#
    • .NET
    • JavaScript
    • Python
    • PowerShell
  • Knowledge of relational databases and SQL query development.
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as:
    • AWS
    • Azure
  • Experience with ERP applications.
  • Experience with transit scheduling and operations applications is a plus.
Responsibilities
Automation Framework Strategy & Design
  • Contribute to technology stack definition, infrastructure design, and testing approaches.
  • Help scope and define automation tool requirements.
  • Collaborate with QA and application teams to advance automation strategies.
  • Evaluate scalable and modular automation framework solutions for Windows UI applications.
  • Ensure extensibility to web UI automation.
Framework Development
  • Define and establish core framework components, including:
    • Test case management
    • Object repositories
    • Logging
    • Reporting
    • Data-driven testing
    • Configuration management
  • Develop reliable and maintainable:
    • Functional tests
    • Regression tests
    • Smoke tests
  • Implement parallel execution strategies.
  • Optimize automation for performance and stability.
Tool & Technology Evaluation
  • Evaluate automation tools and libraries.
  • Create proof-of-concepts (POCs).
  • Perform ROI analysis for tool selection.
  • Define adoption criteria and framework best practices.
  • Assess web load testing tools.
Quality Assurance Governance
  • Define and enforce coding standards.
  • Ensure adherence to QA best practices.
  • Define:
    • Error management strategies
    • Deterministic test data approaches
    • Environment controls
  • Support continuous QA improvement initiatives.
CI/CD, Reporting & Metrics
  • Integrate automation solutions with build pipelines where applicable.
  • Integrate with test management tools.
  • Automate test reporting.
  • Publish actionable QA metrics.
  • Enable unified reporting and artifact management across testing suites.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner with:
    • Developers
    • QA Analysts
    • Product Owners
  • Define:
    • Testable requirements
    • Acceptance criteria
    • Risk-based test coverage
  • Produce documentation, examples, and onboarding materials.
  • Deliver training sessions for QA engineers and stakeholders.
  • Mentor team members.
