Overview
We are seeking an experienced Microsoft Fabric Solution Data Architect to join as a consultant for a strategic engagement. This role focuses on designing and guiding the implementation of modern data platforms built on Microsoft Fabric, ensuring scalability, governance, and alignment with business objectives. As a consultant, you will provide expert architectural leadership, best practices, and hands-on guidance throughout the engagement lifecycle, with a strong emphasis on enterprise cloud transformation. This position reports to the Admin Director Enterprise Analytics Platform and collaborates closely with Analytics Operations and Analytics Architecture teams.
Engagement Scope
- Deliver architectural strategy and design for Microsoft Fabric-based data ecosystems.
- Advise on implementation patterns for OneLake, Lakehouse, Data Warehouse, and Power BI workloads.
- Provide governance, security, and compliance frameworks tailored to organizational needs.
- Support integration with Azure services and enterprise applications.
- Offer cost optimization and performance tuning recommendations.
- Lead enterprise data strategy transformation to cloud-native architecture.
Key Responsibilities
- Define the endtoend architecture for Microsoft Fabric based data platforms, including OneLake, Lakehouse, Data Warehouse, and Semantic Models.
- Develop scalable data ingestion, transformation, storage, and consumption patterns.
- Establish architectural standards, frameworks, and best practices for Fabric adoption.
- Align data platform strategy with business goals, analytics needs, and enterprise architecture.
- Design medallion architecture (Bronze/Silver/Gold) using Delta Lake.
- Lead the creation of dimensional models, star schemas, and semantic models.
- Oversee development of pipelines, notebooks, and dataflows for ingestion and transformation.
- Optimize performance for Fabric Warehouse, Lakehouse, and Power BI models.
- Implement governance frameworks using Microsoft Purview and Fabric governance features.
- Define and enforce security standards including RBAC, data masking, and workspace governance.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and organizational data policies.
- Provide architectural guidance to engineering, BI, and analytics teams.
- Conduct design reviews, code reviews, and solution validation.
- Evaluate new Fabric features and drive continuous improvement.
- Mentor teams on Fabric capabilities, patterns, and best practices.
- Lead solution design during project discovery, planning, and implementation phases.
- Collaborate with project managers, business stakeholders, and technical teams.
- Support deployment, testing, and production rollout of Fabric workloads.
- Troubleshoot complex issues across ingestion, storage, modeling, and reporting layers.
- Integrate Fabric with Azure services (ADLS, Synapse, Databricks, Functions, Event Hub).
- Ensure seamless connectivity with enterprise applications, APIs, and third-party systems.
- Support integration with Power BI, AI/ML platforms, and downstream analytics tools.
- Design cost-efficient architectures aligned with Fabric capacity models.
- Monitor usage and optimize workloads to control cost and improve performance.
Required Expertise
- Deep knowledge of Microsoft Fabric workloads: Lakehouse, Warehouse, Data Engineering, Data Factory, Real-Time Analytics, and Power BI.
- Strong SQL, Spark SQL, and PySpark skills.
- Experience with Delta Lake, medallion architecture, and data modeling.
- Familiarity with Azure identity, networking, and security.
- Proven track record in enterprise-scale data platform design and governance.
- Experience leading cloud architecture transformation initiatives, including migrating or modernizing enterprise data strategies to cloud-native platforms (preferably Microsoft Azure and Fabric).
Engagement Model
- Duration: Fixed-term consulting engagement (e.g., 3 6 months, extendable based on project needs).
- Deliverables: Architecture blueprint, governance framework, integration strategy, and knowledge transfer.
- Location: Remote or hybrid, with occasional onsite workshops.
- Reports to: Admin Director Enterprise Analytics Platform.
