About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Alteryx Administrator to support and stabilize our enterprise Alteryx Server environment on a 6-month contract engagement. This role is responsible for the day-to-day administration, performance tuning, and operational health of a high-availability, on-premises Alteryx Server cluster serving approximately 7,000 users across the organization.
The contractor will work closely with the DDP engineering team, serving as the subject matter expert on the Alteryx platform while our internal team completes a knowledge transfer and transition. This is a hands-on technical role - not a project management position.
Environment
Platform: Alteryx Server (on-premises)
Architecture: Multi-node cluster with High Availability (HA) configuration
User Base: ~7,000 licensed users
Deployment: On-prem (no cloud migration in scope for this engagement)
Team: Embedded within the Data Delivery Platforms (DDP) team
Key Responsibilities
Platform Administration
Administer and maintain the Alteryx Server cluster across all nodes (Controller, Worker, Gallery)
Monitor server health, job queue performance, and resource utilization across cluster nodes
Manage Alteryx Server upgrades, patches, and hotfixes in coordination with the DDP team
Maintain HA configuration and validate failover readiness - conduct periodic HA failover testing
Tune worker node concurrency, job scheduling, and resource allocation to optimize throughput for a 7k-user environment
User & Access Management
Manage user provisioning, deprovisioning, and role-based access control in Alteryx Gallery and Server
Administer Active Directory / LDAP integration for user authentication and group-based permissions
Support onboarding of new users and teams; enforce licensing governance and usage policies
Conduct periodic access audits and remediate any orphaned accounts or over-privileged roles
Workflow & Gallery Operations
Manage the Alteryx Gallery - curate collections, control publishing permissions, and maintain workflow versioning
Triage and resolve workflow execution failures, job scheduling conflicts, and runtime errors
Coordinate with workflow developers and business owners to diagnose performance issues in published workflows
Maintain a catalog of production workflows with documented owners, schedules, and SLAs
Monitoring & Incident Response
Configure and maintain platform monitoring for Alteryx Server (CPU, memory, disk I/O, job queue depth)
Establish alerting thresholds and escalation paths for platform degradation events
Serve as the primary on-call resource for Alteryx platform incidents during the contract period
Write or update runbooks for common incident scenarios and operational procedures
Documentation & Knowledge Transfer
Produce and maintain comprehensive documentation of the Alteryx environment including: architecture diagrams (cluster topology, HA setup, network flows), operational runbooks, user administration procedures, and known issues
Conduct structured knowledge transfer sessions with the DDP internal team throughout the engagement
Deliver a final transition document and handoff package by the end of the contract
Required Qualifications
3+ years of hands-on Alteryx Server administration experience
Demonstrated experience administering a multi-node Alteryx Server cluster in a production environment
Strong understanding of Alteryx Server architecture: Controller, Worker, Gallery, Persistence Layer, and Service Layer
Experience configuring and maintaining High Availability (HA) in Alteryx Server
Proficiency with Alteryx Server API for automation, monitoring, and administrative tasks
Experience with Active Directory / LDAP integration for authentication and group management
Solid Windows Server administration skills
Experience with SQL Server or MongoDB for Alteryx persistence layer management
Strong troubleshooting skills - able to diagnose issues at the node, service, or workflow level independently
Excellent written communication skills - this role has a significant documentation and knowledge transfer component
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting large user environments at enterprise scale
Familiarity with Alteryx licensing models (named user, concurrent, server capacity)
Experience integrating Alteryx Server monitoring with tools such as Datadog, Zabbix, or Prometheus
Exposure to IIS configuration and Windows firewall rules as they relate to Alteryx Gallery
Experience with Alteryx Designer for workflow triage and testing
Familiarity with ServiceNow or similar ITSM platforms for incident and change management
Experience writing PowerShell scripts for Windows service management or Alteryx API automation
