Position Title :: Monitoring & Observability Engineer
Locations :: Westerville OH or Phoenix AZ

Job Description:

The Monitoring & Observability Engineer is responsible for the configuration, administration, and operational support of enterprise monitoring and compliance tools, including Datadog, Tripwire, and NetBrain. This role focuses on ensuring reliable system visibility, configuration compliance, and actionable alerting across on-premises and cloud environments. The engineer partners closely with infrastructure, network, security, and application teams to align monitoring capabilities with business and operational requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Monitoring Tool Management

  • Configure, administer, and maintain enterprise monitoring platforms including Datadog, Tripwire, and NetBrain.
  • Implement and maintain dashboards, alerts, reports, and health checks aligned with operational standards and SLAs.
  • Continuously tune monitoring configurations to reduce alert noise and improve signal quality.
  • Conduct reconciliation using CMDB data to ensure required servers/devices are monitored.
  • Resolve connectivity issues related to monitoring tools

Configuration & Compliance Monitoring

  • Manage configuration and integrity monitoring using Tripwire, including policy configuration, drift detection, and compliance reporting.
  • Collaborate with security, audit, and platform teams to ensure monitoring aligns with regulatory and internal compliance requirements.

Automation & Tool Enhancement

  • Develop and maintain basic scripts using PowerShell, Bash, or Python to automate monitoring tasks.
  • Participate in proofs of concept, tool evaluations, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Documentation & Collaboration

  • Create and maintain documentation, standards, and runbooks for monitoring tools and processes.
  • Partner with application, infrastructure, and network teams to onboard new services.
  • Provide knowledge transfer and operational support to L1/L2 teams.

Required Qualifications

  • 3 6 years of experience in monitoring, observability, or infrastructure engineering roles.
  • Hands-on experience with Datadog, Tripwire, NetBrain, or similar enterprise monitoring tools.
  • Ability to troubleshoot network connectivity issues and understands how firewalls, load balancers, and DNS function within TCP/IP based networks.
  • Strong understanding of infrastructure, network, and application monitoring concepts.
  • Experience configuring alerts, dashboards, and reports.
  • Working knowledge of scripting or automation (PowerShell, Bash, Python).
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting hybrid or cloud environments (Azure and/or AWS).
  • Familiarity with ITSM integrations and incident workflows.
  • Exposure to compliance, audit, or configuration management monitoring.
  • Experience in regulated industries such as financial services.
