Role Overview

Apex Systems is seeking a Deskside Support Technician to support a vital information technology services program within the federal public sector. The position requires providing high-quality, hands-on technical support directly to end-users and senior leadership in a professional office environment. The selected candidate will diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and peripheral issues while maintaining exceptional customer service standards. This role requires full-time, on-site presence at secure customer facilities in Washington, DC.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive deskside support for users, addressing technical issues dispatched via the service desk system.
  • Perform hands-on break/fix support for computer hardware devices, including the replacement of failing hard drives, batteries, and other components.
  • Install and configure specialized software applications not packaged within automated deployment tools.
  • Assess, diagnose, and resolve issues with printing devices, including physical maintenance such as toner installation.
  • Remove specific hardware devices from the network immediately when directed by security personnel.
  • Interact daily with supervisors, peer groups, and customer stakeholders to exchange factual technical information and resolve issues.
  • Prioritize tasks dynamically based on ticket urgency and customer priority, working across multiple facilities without direct supervision.
  • Ensure all support activities, troubleshooting steps, and resolutions are documented accurately and kept up to date within the ticketing system.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent certification.
  • 5+ years of technical experience in a hands-on IT support role within a Windows-based office environment.
  • Proven experience troubleshooting complex operating system errors, such as operating system crashes and stop errors (Blue Screen of Death), without relying solely on system cloning.
  • Proficiency with Windows 10, Microsoft Office applications, Microsoft Exchange, and Outlook is required.
  • Must have hands-on experience utilizing enterprise IT service management ticketing tools.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior technical support experience within federal civil agency environments.
  • Familiarity with standard federal agency IT service delivery structures and protocols.
