Summary

ASSYST is seeking an experienced SQL Developer with strong Microsoft Power BI and business intelligence (BI) skills to support enterprise reporting requirements for our client in Washington D.C.

This role emphasizes advanced SQL development, particularly the design and optimization of stored procedures and queries that serve as the foundation for enterprise reports and analytics. The candidate will be responsible for developing, testing, debugging, and maintaining efficient SQL code to support reporting needs, with a strong focus on data accuracy, performance tuning, and query optimization. In addition, the candidate will support Power BI development efforts, including data modeling and report integration, ensuring that underlying data sources are reliable, performant, and scalable.

The candidate will collaborate with other Power BI developers, business stakeholders, and internal technical teams to translate complex business requirements into effective data solutions and reporting outputs.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, maintain, and optimize complex SQL queries and stored procedures that serve as the foundation for enterprise reporting and analytics.
  • Analyze and troubleshoot data issues to ensure accuracy, consistency, and reliability across reports.
  • Examine and improve query performance, including tuning and optimization of existing SQL code.
  • Work with internal stakeholders to gather and translate business reporting and analysis requirements into technical solutions.
  • Design, develop, and deploy Power BI reports, dashboards, and data visualizations.
  • Create and maintain efficient data models to support reporting needs and ensure optimal performance.
  • Develop and maintain metrics and datasets to support strategic and operational reporting.
  • Support testing, validation, and debugging of reporting solutions.
  • Provide guidance and support to business users in understanding and effectively using reports and dashboards.

Requirements:

  • Two-plus years of experience designing and developing data-driven reports, dashboards, metrics, and visualizations using Microsoft Power BI.
  • Strong knowledge of Power BI data modeling and querying capabilities, including creation of calculated columns, measures, and relationships.
  • Strong practical experience with MS/Azure SQL, including writing and optimizing complex queries, dynamic SQL, and stored procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve data accuracy issues and optimize query performance.
  • Experience gathering business requirements, translating the requirements into technical report requirements, defining functional specs for reporting, and collaborating with architects, developers and testers.
  • Experience working with diverse data sources and integrating data for reporting and analytics.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft tools such as Excel, Power Query, and Power Pivot.
  • Has Experience using iterative development and rapid prototyping approaches.
  • Ability to take initiative and be innovative.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage priorities, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing requirements.
  • Demonstrated initiative and ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • High level of personal, work and professional ethics.
  • Ability to obtain a Public Trust.
