Splunk Enterprise Security SME/Detection Engineer

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Kforce has a client that is seeking a Splunk Enterprise Security SME/Detection Engineer in Tampa, FL.

Summary:
We are looking for a Security Engineer to join our clients security team supporting their enterprise SaaS product. The goal of this role is to help with the onboarding and normalization of logging data prior to it being uploaded to Splunk.

Key Tasks:
* Focus on Splunk security logic, continuous data quality, noise reduction, and translating threat intelligence into actionable Tier 1/2 workflows
* Focus heavily on data normalization and optimization geared specifically toward detection enablement; Build automated analyzers and monitors in Splunk to ensure data is always in a healthy, usable state for detections
* Conduct/build process for routine data model audits and enforce field completeness; Design and build monitors that automatically alert the required team if data quality, field extraction, or log volume falls below an acceptable threshold (preventing silent detection failures)
* Help deploy Out-Of-The-Box (OOTB) Enterprise Security rules and write advanced SPL for custom correlation searches tailored to the environment
* Provide hands-on assistance across the board to ensure all onboarded data is properly mapped to the Splunk Common Information Model (CIM), so detections run efficiently and accurately
* Systematically tune alerts and underlying data to manage the exact alert volume the appropriate team will receive; Tune out the top known false positives before the EMS integration goes live to prevent Tier 1 alert fatigue
* Translate complex security logic into simple, step-by-step playbooks and runbooks for consumption by the PCC team (for use in their Knowledge Base and EMS workflows)
* Build out comprehensive documentation on the data analyzers, CIM mappings, and custom detections, providing hands-on knowledge transfer to ensure the internal team can maintain the environment after the engagement ends

REQUIREMENTS:
* To be considered for this position, candidates must have experience in a similar role, or they must possess significant knowledge, experience, and abilities to successfully perform the responsibilities listed
* Relevant education and/or training will be considered a plus

The pay range is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay at posting for this role. We may ultimately pay more or less than this range. Employee pay is based on factors like relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.

We offer comprehensive benefits including medical/dental/vision insurance, HSA, FSA, 401(k), and life, disability & ADD insurance to eligible employees. Salaried personnel receive paid time off. Hourly employees are not eligible for paid time off unless required by law. Hourly employees on a Service Contract Act project are eligible for paid sick leave.
