Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Mainframe z/VM & Linux Systems Engineer to support, administer, and optimize IBM Z mainframe virtualization environments running z/VM and Linux on IBM Z. The ideal candidate will have expertise in z/VM systems programming, Linux administration, virtualization technologies, performance tuning, automation, and enterprise infrastructure management.

The engineer will be responsible for maintaining highly available and secure IBM Z environments, supporting Linux guests, managing virtualization resources, troubleshooting complex system issues, and collaborating with infrastructure, network, security, and application teams.

Key Responsibilities

Install, configure, and maintain IBM z/VM environments.
Administer Linux on IBM Z (RHEL, SUSE, Ubuntu).
Manage virtual machines, guest operating systems, and resource allocation.
Perform z/VM system upgrades, maintenance, and patch management.
Configure and support TCP/IP networking within z/VM and Linux environments.
Monitor system performance and conduct capacity planning.
Troubleshoot operating system, virtualization, and infrastructure issues.
Support storage integration, DASD management, and backup/recovery procedures.
Implement automation using REXX, Shell Scripting, Ansible, or other tools.
Maintain system security and compliance standards.
Support disaster recovery planning and business continuity initiatives.
Collaborate with application, database, and infrastructure teams during deployments and migrations.
Create and maintain technical documentation and operational procedures.
