Job Summary

The Senior Manager, IT Project Management leads a team of project managers responsible for delivering complex technology initiatives that support business objectives and strategic transformation programs. This role oversees project portfolios, establishes project management standards, manages stakeholder relationships, and ensures projects are delivered on time, within budget, and according to quality expectations. The Senior Manager serves as a strategic partner to business and technology leaders, driving operational excellence and continuous improvement across project delivery practices.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Management
  • Establish performance goals, provide coaching, and support professional development.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Build project management capabilities and promote best practices across the organization.

Project & Portfolio Management
  • Oversee a portfolio of IT projects, programs, and strategic initiatives.
  • Ensure alignment of projects with organizational priorities and business objectives.
  • Manage project scope, schedule, budget, resources, risks, and dependencies.
  • Monitor project performance and provide executive-level reporting on status, risks, and outcomes.
  • Drive successful execution of large-scale technology implementations, upgrades, integrations, and digital transformation initiatives.

Stakeholder Management
  • Partner with business leaders, technology teams, vendors, and executive stakeholders to define project objectives and success criteria.
  • Communicate project progress, key decisions, risks, and mitigation plans to leadership.
  • Facilitate governance meetings and steering committee reviews.
  • Build strong cross-functional relationships to ensure effective collaboration and decision-making.

Governance & Process Improvement
  • Establish and maintain project governance frameworks, methodologies, and standards.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies, security requirements, and regulatory obligations.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance project delivery effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Implement project management tools, metrics, and reporting capabilities.

Financial & Resource Management
  • Manage project budgets and resource allocation across the portfolio.
  • Track expenditures, forecast costs, and ensure financial accountability.
  • Support annual planning, budgeting, and capacity management activities.
  • Evaluate vendor performance and manage external consulting engagements as needed.

Qualifications

Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Administration, Engineering, or related field.
  • 8+ years of progressive IT project or program management experience.
  • 3+ years of people leadership experience managing project or program management teams.
  • Demonstrated success leading large, cross-functional technology initiatives in complex enterprise environments.
  • Strong understanding of project management methodologies, including Agile, Waterfall, and Hybrid approaches.
  • Experience managing project budgets, timelines, risks, and stakeholder communications.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, presentation, and relationship management skills.

Preferred
  • PMP (Project Management Professional), PgMP, PMI-ACP, SAFe, or equivalent certification.
  • Experience leading cloud migration, ERP, cybersecurity, infrastructure, data, or digital transformation programs.
  • Familiarity with project portfolio management (PPM) tools and reporting platforms.

Pay Range

The typical pay range for this role is:

$75,400.00 - $165,954.00

This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above. This position also includes an award target in the company's equity award program.
