Location: Madison, WI (Hybrid – 3 Days Onsite)
Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced Platform Engineer with expertise in Backstage.io, Cloud Platforms, Kubernetes, Terraform, and DevOps. The ideal candidate will design, build, and maintain an internal developer platform to improve developer productivity and streamline software delivery. This role requires a strong software engineering background, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) mindset, and a passion for Developer Experience (DevX).
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and manage an internal developer platform using Backstage.io.
- Develop custom Backstage plugins, software templates, and manage the Backstage Software Catalog.
- Enhance Developer Experience (DevX) through self-service tools and workflow automation.
- Design and manage cloud infrastructure on AWS and Google Cloud Platform.
- Automate infrastructure provisioning using Terraform and Crossplane.
- Build and maintain GitLab CI/CD pipelines for automated deployments.
- Manage software artifacts using JFrog Artifactory.
- Develop automation scripts using Python, Go, or Bash.
- Implement observability and monitoring using Datadog.
- Apply SRE principles to improve platform reliability, scalability, and performance.
- Troubleshoot distributed systems and collaborate with development teams to resolve platform issues.
- Support API development and integration using REST and GraphQL.
Required Skills:
- Strong experience with Backstage.io (Developer Portal, Plugins, Software Catalog, Scaffolder).
- Hands-on experience with AWS and/or Google Cloud Platform.
- Experience with Kubernetes (EKS/GKE) and Docker.
- Expertise in Terraform and Crossplane.
- Strong experience with GitLab CI/CD.
- Experience managing JFrog Artifactory.
- Strong scripting skills in Python, Go, or Bash.
- Hands-on experience with Datadog.
- Strong understanding of Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) principles.
- Programming experience with TypeScript, JavaScript, and Python.
- Experience with REST APIs, GraphQL, Git, and SDLC best practices.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience working in Platform Engineering or Developer Experience (DevX) teams.
- Open-source contributions, especially Backstage.
- Experience securing CI/CD pipelines and implementing secure coding practices.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills.
- Product-oriented mindset focused on improving developer experience.
