Senior Mainframe Migration Engineer (Mainframe w/ AWS)

Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Mainframe Migration Engineer to support the final phase of modernizing legacy applications. This role focuses on migrating the remaining 10 15% of core COBOL and DB2 workloads from a mainframe environment to AWS. This is a hands-on, senior-level individual contributor role requiring deep mainframe expertise and growing cloud exposure.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead migration of COBOL and DB2 applications from mainframe to AWS
• Ensure data sets and structures align with Pitech architecture standards
• Write and integrate data into DSVDS (analytic database)
• Collaborate with Data Modernization team (Client) managing data pipelines
• Retire legacy system components post-migration (stored procedures, service requests, tables, batch jobs/files)
• Operate as a dedicated individual contributor with focus on:
  • ~70% modernization (initially)
  • Remaining effort on retirement and cleanup activities

Required Technical Skills (Must-Have):

• Mainframe: COBOL, DB2, SQL
• Job Control: Strong experience with JCL
• Mainframe Tools: Control-M, Endevor, BFC, Smart TS

Nice-to-Have / AWS Skills (Growing Focus):

• AWS services including:
  • S3
  • Lambda
  • Aurora (DB2 migration)
  • DynamoDB
  • Glue

Qualifications:

• 8+ years of relevant experience
• Strong background in mainframe development and migration
• Experience supporting legacy systems while transitioning toward data modernization
• Comfortable operating independently in a senior, execution-focused role
