Senior Semantic Model Developer (SSMD) - UTMB seeks an experienced SSMD to support the design, development, governance, and deployment of enterprise grade semantic data models hosted on Microsoft Fabric capacity. This role is critical to delivering trusted, high-performance analytical models that support reporting, analytics, and AI initiatives across an Academic Medical Enterprise. The successful candidate will work hands-on with SQL Server based data warehouses, Tabular Editor, DAX, and row-level security (RLS) to deliver scalable and secure enterprise models used by analysts, leadership, and downstream AI solutions. This position reports directly to the Executive Director and works closely with data engineering, reporting, analytics, and AI teams.
Technical Skills:
- Strong SQL skills with experience developing analytical views in enterprise data warehouses.
- Advanced DAX expertise, including performance optimization and complex calculations.
- Hands-on experience with Tabular Editor (v2 or v3 strongly preferred).
- Experience deploying and managing semantic models in Power BI Premium / Microsoft Fabric capacity.
- Proven experience implementing and managing Row-Level Security (RLS).
- Solid understanding of dimensional modeling and semantic layer design.
Platform & Tools:
- Microsoft SQL Server / Azure SQL.
- Power BI / Fabric Semantic Models.
- Tabular Object Model (TOM) concepts.
- Azure-based analytics environments. (preferred)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in an academic medical center, healthcare system, or higher-education environment.
- Familiarity with clinical, academic, research, or financial data domains.
- Experience supporting enterprise-scale BI platforms with multiple stakeholder groups.
- Exposure to data governance, data catalogs, or metric standardization initiatives.
- Experience supporting analytics used by AI / machine learning workflows.
Income Package: Salary will range from $123,000 - $160,000 and is based on education, training and experience. Additional benefits are provided to include a superior family benefits program, an unsurpassed retirement program, and other potential incentives.
