Seeking a Business Intelligence Developer to lead the development and delivery of high-impact reports and dashboards supporting Federal Government clients. This role focuses on building scalable, high-performance analytics solutions using Microsoft Power BI and Azure-based data services in a cloud environment. The ideal candidate has strong experience partnering with business stakeholders, translating data needs into actionable insights, and supporting enterprise reporting platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Work directly with stakeholders to gather and document reporting and analytics requirements and provide ongoing user support
- Design, develop, and deliver operational and analytical reports, dashboards, visualizations, and data extracts using Power BI and related query tools
- Reengineer existing Power BI and SSRS reports to source data from Azure Data Lake, Synapse Analytics, and Azure SQL Managed Instance
- Analyze existing ETL logic and data sources, including SQL Server databases and SSAS cubes, to understand and implement required data transformations
- Monitor and optimize report performance by tuning DAX queries, Power Query, data models, visual components, and caching strategies
- Leverage Azure data services such as Azure Data Lake, Synapse Analytics, Azure SQL, and Analysis Services to deliver efficient and scalable reporting solutions
- Collaborate with business analysts, data modelers, data architects, and data engineers to support data model design and data transformations
- Design and implement processes to ensure data accuracy, consistency, and quality across reports and analytics
- Support Power BI administration, including workspace management, access controls, apps, gateways, cloud data source connections, and usage monitoring
- Ensure reporting solutions align with established data governance policies and procedures
- Incorporate AI and ML capabilities, including Power BI Copilot, to enhance analytics and reporting workflows
- Assist the Help Desk with incident and problem management related to reporting and analytics
- Support end user training and adoption of reporting tools
- Actively participate in Agile DevOps processes, including Program Increment planning
- Maintain continuous learning to stay current with evolving BI and cloud technologies
Requirements Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree with 8+ years of relevant professional experience
- At least 4 years of hands-on experience delivering reports, dashboards, and analytics using Power BI, including Power BI Service, Desktop, and Report Server
- At least 4 years of experience working directly with business users to gather requirements, develop reports, and provide ongoing support
- Strong experience with the Microsoft BI stack, including Power BI, SSAS, SSRS, and SSIS
- Proven experience optimizing report performance through DAX, Power Query, and data model tuning
- Strong experience working with SQL databases (OLTP and OLAP), flat file data sources, multidimensional models, T-SQL, DAX, MDX, and Power Query
- Experience developing reports using Azure-based data services, including Synapse Analytics
- Experience working in Agile environments with cross-functional teams
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision and collaboratively within a team
- Must hold an active, government-issued DOJ Public Trust clearance
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience supporting Federal Government programs
- Experience delivering analytics solutions in legal, HR, financial management, inventory, property, or management domains
- Power BI and/or Microsoft Azure data analytics certifications
- Experience supporting data governance initiatives
- Familiarity with Design Thinking, Human-Centered Design, and persona-driven solution development
