Position: Systems Engineer
*Candidates must be able to obtain and/or maintain a Department of Defense (change if needed to other agency) SECRET security clearance as a condition and continuation of employment*
Location: Colorado Springs, CO or Huntsville, AL (onsite work)
Duration: Contract through May 2029
Type: W2 contract, paid hourly. No C2C, 1099, or third-party submissions will be accepted. Only direct W-2 candidates will be considered.
Pay Rate Range: $90-100/hr. W2
Job Description:
This position will perform some or all of the following duties, concentrating on early-phase (concept, requirements, and design) activities of the Systems-Engineering Development Lifecycle:
Lead the development of new system concepts by transforming stakeholder needs, acquired through documentation and solicitation, into easily reviewable technical approaches.
Perform requirements elicitation and decomposition using behavioral artifacts such as use cases, activity diagrams, and sequence diagrams to convey understanding of the required behaviors and performance of the system under development.
Lead the development of physical and logical system models capturing the system under development utilizing Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) approaches and tools.
Lead system interface development, as captured in Interface Control Documents (ICDs) and Interface Design Descriptions (IDDs), by converting system and interface requirements into message-level details sufficient to coordinate interface development.
Support formal and informal engineering technical reviews.
Create, review and critique interface documents, system requirements, verification documentation, architectural documentation, and engineering estimates.
Interface with key stakeholders, including the MDA customer and working-level counterparts, as-required.
Participate in Agile development planning and execution, including iteration planning and status reporting.
Emerging authority typically with an advanced degree and 7+ years experience or bachelors with 9+ years experience or equivalent; applies extensive expertise; solves complex problems that require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity; work is performed without appreciable direction and is reviewed for desired results from a relatively long time perspective; erroneous decisions would normally result in failure to achieve major organizational objectives; may function in project leadership roles and represents the organization as prime customer contact on significant technical matters on contracts.
Candidates for this position will ideally meet some or all of the following preferred qualifications:
Systems Engineer with 9+ years of experience working in an integrated team environment with other systems engineers developing solutions covering all aspects of the Systems-Engineering Development Lifecycle.
Demonstrated experience covering all responsibilities of this role.
Experience regularly interacting with the customer, specifically in elicitation of customer needs and requirements.
Experience with one or more elements of the Missile Defense System.
Experience with one or more elements involved in Space Defense, Space Domain Awareness, or other Space Missions.
Experience with complex Command and Control Systems, especially those with heavy networking capabilities.
Experience performing many of the responsibilities of this position, with a particular focus on concept development and requirement decomposition.
Experience with using MBSE approaches and tools (e.g. Cameo).
Experience working on tasks where failure to achieve good results normally results in program delays and wasted expenditure of resources.
Ability to clearly and concisely communicate (written and verbal) with others, present technical content, and receive critical feedback.
Ability to support short-notice and/or urgent tasks without a loss of efficiency.
Work will be performed as a member of an Agile Scrum team under the direction of a Team Lead who reports to the Regional Systems Engineering Manager.
Work will be performed in a closed area.
This position is a 100% in-office position.
Some travel may be required.
