We are a Japanese-owned manufacturer of custom PVC compounds, running a 24/7 production facility of about 90 team members in Burlington, New Jersey. Our products serve customers who need consistent, certified material, backed by ISO 9001 as well as NSF, UL and other third-party certifications. We keep a disciplined, detail-driven culture where quality is everyone's job, and our team members stay: turnover is low and people build long careers here. With our current Quality leader retiring, we're looking for a Manager of Quality Control and Quality Assurance to lead the department, own our quality systems and certifications, and act as the voice of quality with our customers.

Job Details

What We Are Looking For:

This role leads the Quality Control and Quality Assurance department at our 24/7 PVC compounding facility. The QC/QA Manager builds, runs and improves the quality systems that keep product consistent for customers, meet regulatory requirements, and keep our certifications (ISO 9001, NSF, UL and other third-party programs) in good standing. You will lead three QC/QA Supervisors and a team of four QC Technicians who are represented by the United Steelworkers. You will also be the main quality contact for customers, running corrective-action reviews and visiting customer sites when issues come up. We want a hands-on quality leader who knows plastics or polymer process manufacturing, reads defect data well, and holds high standards while building trust across Production, R&D, Supply Chain and Procurement. Experience in a Japanese-owned manufacturing environment is highly valued. The role reports to the Production General Manager, works first shift, and is onsite in Burlington, NJ.

What You Will Do:

• Manage the QC/QA department and the quality assurance program, keeping product quality standards consistent
• Manage all ISO 9001 activity, plus the internal audit program, customer audits, NSF and UL audits, and other third-party assessments
• Maintain certification records, listings and test records, and assess how proposed changes to formulations, raw materials, suppliers, processes or equipment affect certifications before they are made
• Lead customer quality meetings, corrective-action reviews and audit discussions, and visit customer sites to investigate concerns and resolve issues
• Lead investigations into customer complaints, product nonconformities and internal quality concerns, including any product recalls
• Drive root cause analysis, statistical methods, risk assessment, CAPA and continuous improvement to reduce internal and external defects
• Partner with Procurement and Supply Chain to run supplier quality management for raw material suppliers, product suppliers and subcontractors
• Own document control for quality standards, specifications, test methods and procedures, including revisions, effective dates and retiring obsolete versions
• Build and oversee the calibration and measurement-control program for lab, inspection and test equipment
• Review production schedules and mixing cards for accuracy, attend daily production meetings, and issue quality alerts
• Work with R&D on the quality of new products and help set standards and methods for inspection, testing and evaluation
• Prepare the QC/QA operating and capital budgets, monthly management reports and KPI updates for senior leadership
• Train, coach and evaluate QC/QA Supervisors, and lead the monthly Quality Sub-Committee

What We Require:

• Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Polymer Science, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science or a related field, or an equivalent mix of education and relevant experience
• 7-10 years of quality control or quality assurance experience in a manufacturing environment
• 3-5 years of experience managing people
• Experience managing ISO 9001 systems and leading or supporting NSF, UL, customer or similar third-party certification audits (highly preferred)
• Experience in plastics, polymer compounding, PVC compounding or a closely related process-manufacturing industry (strongly preferred)
• Strong root cause analysis, CAPA and data-analysis skills
• Working knowledge of lean manufacturing and/or Six Sigma
• Advanced Microsoft Excel and Office 365 skills
• Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills across all levels of the organization
• Experience in a Japanese-owned manufacturing environment and/or a union manufacturing environment is a plus
• Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt, or ASQ certification (CQM/OE, CQE, CQA), preferred
• Must pass a pre-employment drug screen
