Role Overview

We are seeking a Database Administrator responsible for data analysis and database management. This role involves the maintenance, enhancement, and design of data dictionaries, physical and logical database models, and performance tuning. The position requires managing integrated database systems and ensuring that new applications are consistent with the database environment. The role requires working a hybrid schedule, with two days onsite in Lansing, MI from the first day.

Key Responsibilities
  • Implement native, cloud-native, and hybrid cross-site backup and recovery strategies.
  • Configure SQL Server on physical hardware, virtual machines, and cloud IaaS.
  • Enforce data masking, encryption (TDE), and Row-Level Security.
  • Manage automated indexing, statistics, and integrity checks across fragmented environments.
  • Automate hybrid environment configuration using PowerShell, dba tools, and Cloud CLIs.
  • Identify performance bottlenecks, rewrite T-SQL, and resolve locking and blocking issues.
  • Manage connectivity between on-premises SQL Servers and cloud environments.
  • Perform data modeling, design relational database models, and create physical data models.
  • Monitor database performance and recommend efficiency improvements.
  • Execute procedures to save, retrieve, and recover databases from hardware and software failures.
Required Qualifications

Experience:
  • 3-5 years in implementing native, cloud-native, and hybrid backup and recovery strategies.
  • 3-5 years in configuring SQL Server on physical hardware, VMs, and cloud IaaS.
  • 3-5 years enforcing data masking, encryption (TDE), and Row-Level Security.
  • 3-5 years managing automated indexing, statistics, and integrity checks.
  • 3-5 years identifying bottlenecks, rewriting T-SQL, and resolving locking/blocking issues.
  • 2-3 years automating hybrid environment configuration using PowerShell, dba tools, and Cloud CLIs.
  • 2-3 years analyzing metrics across physical servers, IaaS VMs, and PaaS endpoints.
  • 2-3 years managing connectivity between on-premises SQL Servers and cloud environments.
  • 2-3 years configuring Azure SQL Database, Managed Instances, or AWS RDS SQL Server.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 1-2 years of experience moving workloads from on-premises to the cloud using Azure Database Migration Service or AWS SMS.
  • 1-2 years of experience with schema deployment automation via Azure DevOps/GitHub Actions using Flyway or Redgate.
